Silicon Valley Demographics – Who comes to your church? Posted: 24 Dec 2010 07:22 PM PST Next time you are sitting in worship and feeling bored, get out a piece of paper and a pencil and look around you. Count heads, ethnicities and tell me what you find. Or, let me tell you what you might find instead and you can tell me if I am right. There are about 6.9 million in the Bay Area. 46.1% of them are White. 21.8% are Asian. 21.7% are Hispanic. 7% are Black. 70% are native Americans. Yeah, I am a native American. I was born here. So were my parents and their parents and…. Now compare those numbers to Santa Clara County which is more in the heart of Silicon Valley. Total population is about 1.8 million. 39.1% are White 29.6% are Asian. 25.4% are Hispanic. 2.5% are Black. 63% are native Americans. Surprisingly, in the small church I attend, these numbers are pretty much spot on. How about your church? For more info: Bay Area Census |

Thinking about doing business in China? Tourism is a great idea. You don’t even need to live in China. Just find an out of the way place that only you know how to get to and charge out the gazoo…and surely some adventure traveler or otherwise will sign up to go ‘boldly go where no man has gone before…if you hold their hand." Palowan is one of those out of the way places, or at least used to be. I know, Palowan is in the Philippines. But it was discovered by a Chinese explorer, Chao Ju-Kua in 1225. That’s the connection, albeit a weak one. I wonder if Palowan had a 1,100 acre Eco-resort with a 300 room resort and floating glass bottom restaurant when Chao found it. Thank goodness this pristine place hasn’t succumbed to commercialism. But then what would tourism be without it? Cost: $2,100

Japanese Wife Loses Husband Who Gave His Life Saving Others in Indonesian Garuda Crash Posted: 24 Dec 2010 11:18 AM PST
It's true. The steward and stewardesses do more than just deliver food and make passengers comfortable. I was told this by a student of mine who went on to become an airline stewardess. When I asked her why she just wanted to be a mile high hostess, she got angry. My job is also to keep the passengers safe.
The Indonesian husband of a Japanese woman and purser aboard Garuda Indonesia, according to witnesses, went back and forth several times to help passengers to safety, pushing them out, leading them out, until an explosion took his life.
Garuda may not be the best airline…but this man, Wiranto Wooryono, will rank as one of the best pursers. Tamie, my stewardess friend, was right. Those men and women on airplanes do more than just serve. I wonder sometimes about the stewards and stewardesses I see on flights. I hope I never find out. Would you give your life for someone you don't know, IF, it were considered your job?

China’s Human Rights and US Markets Posted: 24 Dec 2010 03:13 AM PST
China’s human rights record is considered the number one difficulty in China and US relations by opinion leaders in the US. When asked if access to US Markets should be linked to China’s Human Rights Record – 70% of opinion leaders and 66% of the general public said a resounding YES! And then they keep doing business with China. It seems two faced to me. They want China to straighten up and fly right or we aren’t going to buy from you…and they keep buying. Two thirds of the opinion leaders say that human rights in their top concern regarding China. About half of the general public think the same. Is American business talking out of both sides of its mouth? What do you think? |
