Chinese WANT Consumption Tax

Posted: 30 Dec 2010 04:06 PM PST

Forty percent of Chinese think there should be a consumption tax on luxury items.

Luxury items are jewelry, VIP club memberships and such…things that people with money can afford to pay tax on.

Horizon Research conducted a survey. Not surprisingly, low-income earners preferred the rich get taxed whereas high-income earners didn’t seem to care one way or the other.paying taxes.jpg

In a dual attempt to narrow the gap between the rich and poor AND to regulate energy consumption, on April 1st the government imposed a consumption tax on:

1. wooden chopsticks

2. wooden floor panels

3. yachts

4. luxury watches

5. oil based products

The Horizon Research Group polled 2,552 people in 20 cities. The rich, the report said, would continue to buy luxury goods even the price went up another 10%.

Yep, sounds like the rich everywhere. If they have enough money, they don’t care what it costs.

What do you think?

Andy Lau Named Asian Filmaker of the Year at the Pusan International Film Festival

Posted: 30 Dec 2010 04:03 AM PST

Entertainment is big business. Nowadays some Asian countries have the time and the wherewithal to showcase their talents. You think Hollywood is taking notice? You can bet they are.

Pusan, sometimes, Busan, Korea is hosting the Pusan International Film Festival. Pusan is on the southern coast of the Korean Peninsula. There is a naval port there and I was onced chased by a Korean prostitute.

Why she didn’t catch me? I wonder that now….anyway.

Andy Lau is the toast of the town and the festival. He received the filmmaker of the year award and was given honored guest status for his efforts in promoting new Asian film talent.

Lau, 45, is an actor and now a producer. His most recent film, a 2002 Hong Kong crime thriller "Internal Affairs" was the inspiration for "The Departed," a good flick, in my judgment.

Not only does Asia inspire good stories/movies, it also is producing its own good actors/actresses and movies.

Now Asia has Lau to teach Hollywood stars how to give back to so there can future stars.
