Kala Ghoda Festival 2011 schedule

Posted: 07 Feb 2011 03:33 AM PST

The most colourful event of the city of Mumbai, India, the 'Kala Ghoda Festival 2011' started on 5th February and will go on till the 13th February 2011. Though the event was delayed this year, the spirit and the colors of the event are the same.

The visual arts are dominating the space in the festival, as most of the attention is drawn by the performers, folk artists and parades. This year, the venues for the dance performers have been changed.

However, the only thing that is lacking in the festival is the sound. Due to last year's complaints, the Bombay Municipal Corporation did not allow any amplifiers in the event.

"They even came to check whether we were using any sound equipment, due to which the setting up of stalls got delayed," a street event organizer said.

Performers and artists from across the country have gathered for the festival. The best part is that the event can be enjoyed by the youngsters as well as the senior citizens.

ICC bans Pakistan trio

Posted: 06 Feb 2011 11:55 AM PST

Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt and fast bowlers Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir were banned for playing any format of cricket on Saturday after they were found guilty of spot-fixing by an International Cricket Council (ICC) tribunal.

The 26-year-old Butt, who was captain of Pakistan team in last year’s test series against England, was banned for 10 years, Asif, 28, was ruled out for seven years — two of which are suspended — while 18-year-old Amir was banned for five.

News of the punishment came a day after British prosecutors said the trio would face criminal charges over their actions in the fourth cricket test against England at Lord’s.

Michael Beloff, the lawyer who headed the tribunal, said the suspended parts of the sentence were dependent on the players committing no further breach of the code and attending an anti-corruption programme run by the Pakistan Cricket Board.

A three-man tribunal run the case for six days last month following the allegations in a British newspaper that the trio had arranged for deliberate no-balls to be delivered at pre decided time in the fourth test at Lord’s last year.

All three can appeal to the Court of Arbitration for sport after the tribunal. “We are very disappointed but we are still hopeful we can appeal in 20 days’ time,” Amir’s lawyer Shahid Karim told reporters.

Britain’s Crown Prosecution Service said the trio, along with 35-year-old sports agent Mazhar Majeed from Croydon, England, has been charged with conspiracy to obtain and accept corrupt payments and with conspiracy to cheat.

Authorities in northeast Ohio say a student at Youngstown State University in Ohio was killed and 11 other people, including six YSU students, were wounded in a shooting at a fraternity house just north of the Youngstown State University campus.

Police are in the process of identifying suspects, YSU statement said. Youngstown police Lt. Franklin Palmer says the shooting happened during a party early Sunday and no arrests have been made, but police have at least one suspect. The shooting occurred just after midnight. Palmer said the site of the shooting could be a fraternity house.

The Mahoning County coroner’s office has identified the dead student as 25-year-old Jamail E. Johnson and says he was shot in the head and legs.

YSU Police Chief John Gocala said that there was no threat to the campus, according to the YSU statement.

YSU President Cynthia E. Anderson said, "I want to express my deepest sympathies to the family of the student who died in this tragic act of violence, and to ask everyone to keep him and the other students in their thoughts and prayers,"
