M P Prakash, former deputy chief minister passes away Posted: 09 Feb 2011 01:43 AM PST Former deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka Matada Patil Prakash, passed away on Wednesday morning at Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru. Apart from being a politician, Mr. Prakash was also a social activist, theatre personality, writer and an advocate. The 71 year old politician, suffered from cancer for long and breathed his last on 9th February. Patil has left behind his son, three daughters and wife. He was a multi talented personality and put his hands on almost everything that he could do. The Lingayat community leader was elected five times as MLA. He also acted in a movie and has directed and acted in several plays. The advocate had authored four books and was an excellent orator. Prakash's body has been kept in Freedom Park for public view. The funeral will later take place in Bellary district in Karnataka, India. The state chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, has offered condolences to Prakash's family. An announcement was made that all colleges and schools will remain closed in Bellary district on Thursday. |
Bombay House fire, one injured and three feared dead Posted: 09 Feb 2011 01:20 AM PST The 'Bombay House' building in south Mumbai, India, caught fire on Wednesday morning. The building is the head quarters of the Tata Group. The four storey building caught fire from the basement. Till now three people have died in the incident, injuring one. Four tankers and ten fire engines were immediately rushed to the spot to douse the fire. The fire is reportedly under control, while the search operations are on as many are feared trapped in the building. The 'Bombay House' was built and completed in the year 1924 and since then it has been the head quarters of the Tata Group. Architect George Wittet had designed the building, who later became the head of Tata Engineering Company Limited, which is now known as Tata Motors. The building has a colonial structure and is built with Malad stone. The Tata Group had purchased the land of the building, when the Bombay Municipality had put it on sale. |
Shahid Balwa arrested by the CBI in 2G scam Posted: 09 Feb 2011 01:18 AM PST The managing director of the Dynamix Balwas Shahid Usman Balwa, on Tuesday was arrested by the Central Bureau of investigation, in connection to the 2G spectrum allocation case. Balwa was arrested from his residence in Bandra area in Mumbai, India and was taken to Delhi. Former telecom minister A Raja's custody has been extended for two more days on Tuesday. Balwa had helped promoting Swan Telecom, while Raja had helped Swan to get the 2G licenses for 13 circles, including Mumbai and Delhi for 1,537 crores. The CBI says that Balwa who was close to Raja, had shared the interest earned from the sale of the 2G licenses. Moreover Balwa had also helped Raja and some of his associates to secure the money in real estate. Balwa will be produced in front of the magistrate on 10th February for transit remand in Delhi. Till now Balwa is the fourth person to be arrested in the 2G spectrum case. |

More than 300 colleges have been affiliated under the university and have recognized 11 research centers. The University also offers post graduate courses, 37 Ph.D programs, 20 M.Phil courses and 14 Bachelor degree courses. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) India, has given a A+ grade to the university. |
