Aruna Roy expresses concern for Anna Hazare’s health Posted: 24 Aug 2011 02:14 AM PDT Member of the National Advisory Council (NAC), Aruna Roy on Wednesday had come to meet the India Against Corruption activist Anna Hazare. Roy, who was critical about the demands of Hazare regarding the Lokpal Bill, was concerned about his health. Aruna while talking to the reporters said that she was here as she was concerned about his health and wants to see him healthy. Anna is today on the ninth day of his fast. His energy level has gone down but his spirits are still high. Roy refused to talk or comment about the Jan Lokpal Bill or her version of the bill. Just days back the social activist had said that hazare's indefinite fast for forcing the civil society's version of the Lokpal Bill was wrong. Aruna also expressed that Hazare has been ill advised and that it is wrong to undermine the democratic institutions. Roy has severely criticized Hazare's version of the Lokpal Bill saying that it would give too many powers to the Lokpal and is against the Gandhian principles of decentralization of powers. |
Kanimozhi Karunanidhi threatens to present Manmohan Singh as witness Posted: 23 Aug 2011 10:45 PM PDT Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, who is currently imprisoned in the controversial 2G case, has on Tuesday threatened to use Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as the witness for the case. She had further argued that if her trial continued against her then she would use the prime minister as a witness. Kanimozhi had revealed that the prime minister and the former prime minister P Chidambaram were kept in the loop, when the mobile permits were given to the nine companies in the year 2008. This had put the light on the statement of the former telecom minister A Raja, who had last month told the special court that Manmohan Singh and Chidambaram were aware of the allocations of the 2G spectrum. The 43 year old Rajya Sabha MP had further told that the charges against her were frivolous and malicious and that Chidambaram and telecom minister Kapil Sibal were capable of being the witnesses for the case. Kanimozhi's legal counsel had presented the minutes of the meeting in which the prime minister and the then finance minister as well as the telecom minister had decided that the licenses of the 2G spectrum were not to be auctioned. |
