Kiran Bedi, Anna Hazare, Arvind Kejriwal and other activists detained before fast Posted: 15 Aug 2011 11:08 PM PDT The follower of Gandhian thoughts and the India Against Corruption activist Anna Hazare, today on Tuesday morning , just before he was about to start his fast, was detained by the Delhi Police. Hazare was about to fast against the government drafted Lokpal Bill. The people who were arrested include 250 of the activist's supporters which includes, Arvind Kejriwal and former cop Kiran Bedi. Hazare and Kelriwal were arrested just after they had left their flat in Supreme Enclave in Delhi to reach the venue at Jaiprakash Narayan Park, where he was about to begin his fast. Kejriwal and Hazare had just come out of the lift, when about 20 cops in plain clothes had surrounded them and took them away in the police van. All the supporters of the activists, who had gathered outside the complex had shouted anti-government slogans and supported Hazare. According to Kiran Bedi, the detention of Hazare was unconstitutional. When Hazare had asked the reason why he was being arrested, the cops had just said that they had orders from above. Bedi too was detained from Rajghat. Meanwhile, Hazare said that this is not going to stop his movement and had also appealed to maintain peace. |
