Tamilnadu Civic Election Results 2011 Declared Posted: 21 Oct 2011 06:55 PM PDT The Tamilnadu civic election results will be declared today, October 21, 2011. The ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has consolidated its early gains and continues to be way ahead of its rivals, as the counting of votes for the local bodies is underway in Chennai. According to the State Election Commission’s official (SEC)’s website, the AIADMK party has captured the post of mayor in Vellore and Tuticorin Municipal Corporations. In Tuticorin, the ruling candidate Sasikala Pushpa defeated Pon Initha of the DMK party by a margin of 23,256 votes. The detailed results for Vellore are pending. According to the results announced so far by the SEC, at around 2-40 p.m. the ruling AIADMK has won in 3,797 seats, of which 2,516 are town panchayat, 850 municipalities councilors, 245 town panchayats chairpersons, 96 municipal corporations’ councilors and 36 municipalities chairpersons. The party has also won 53 panchayat union wards. The DMK, which was trailing behind independents till noon, has overtaken them and is now in the second slot, by winning 2,219 seats. Independents have secured 2,083 seats including 1,715 town panchayat ward members. The DMDK party, led by Vijayakant, has won 424 seats, Congress party 406 seats, Bharatiya Janata Party 180 and PMK 142.

Hope stopped by Access Hollywood Live on Wednesday where she chatted about dropping her clothes for the mag's racy shoot. "[It's] one of the hardest photo shoots I've ever done. It took a lot of courage obviously," she told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover. "Probably for eight hours I was naked in front of eight people." The athlete said she eventually got super comfortable baring it all. "I was so nervous at first that I started screaming when they dropped the robe, and then by the end of the day I was talking to people like it was nothing," she said of the shots, which will hit newsstands on Friday. Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2011 Posted: 01 Oct 2011 09:21 PM PDT More than 20 years ago, while volunteering at a breast cancer screening clinic, I found myself, a non-medical professional, walking my fingertips across the body of a stranger. My job was to hand each woman's chart to Dr. R., also a volunteer, refresh the exam table between patients with a crisp new length of white paper, and serve as a chaperone. The turnout was low, and the pace was slow — until in walked a petite woman with beautiful skin and thick wavy hair a striking shade of strawberry blond. She moved stiffly, her knees unbending, her arms, hands, and fingers curled at odd angles. Her chart revealed that she was 40 years old, had suffered from arthritis since childhood — and was here because she had felt a lump in her left breast three weeks earlier. Her disability prevented her from climbing onto the table, so Dr. R. lifted her up and helped her to lie back. As he gently kneaded her small breasts, he said, "Yes, there is a lump here. You need to do something about this. You must do something about this." Then, "Would you mind if the trainee examined this?" She agreed, and that's when I felt it, the sinister squatter that had taken up residence in the body of this woman who'd never laid eyes on me before. It was hard, the size and shape of a walnut, and lodged firmly just behind the nipple. I will never forget how it felt when my finger tripped over it, like a toe trips over a stone in soft sand; if I ever feel such a thing in my own breast, I will recognize it for what it is, get help — and in my heart thank the strawberry blond woman for her extraordinary gift to me. Afterwards, Dr. R. pulled his stool up close and spoke kindly and frankly to the woman, outlining what the next weeks and months would likely bring — the mammogram, the biopsy, the treatment options, the possible loss of her breast. The details of this litany escaped me. In my mind's eye I saw my grandmother changing clothes years after her own mastectomy, her chest flat as a board, the area beneath her arm concave where cancer-stricken lymph nodes had been removed, as if a big bite had been taken from her side. Is this what was in store for the redheaded woman? For any woman who develops breast cancer? For me? Thankfully, no. The diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer have come a long way since my grandmother's bout with the disease. Biopsies and lumpectomies typically are often removed through the area around the aereola, so that the breast has very little distortion. Even when a mastectomy is necessary, reconstruction of the breast can begin at the time of that surgery. This is what money given by so many over the past 20 years has yielded: earlier detection, improved treatment, and a better quality of life after diagnosis for a great percentage of women. October is officially Breast Cancer Awareness Month and we at WVFC hope that we can be as helpful to you in the coming four weeks as the strawberry blond woman I encountered two decades ago was to me — by providing informational, practical, and inspiring content about the most common cancer among women. Amanda Knox should be sentenced to life Posted: 24 Sep 2011 07:18 PM PDT Italian prosecutors asked an appeals court on Saturday to uphold the conviction of Amanda Knox for the murder of her British roommate and increase her sentence to life in prison. The 24-year-old American sat motionless as Prosecutor Giancarlo Costagliola made his request. The prosecutor sought the same sentence for Knox’s co-defendant, former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, capping two days of closing arguments by the prosecutors. Costagliola also requested six months of daytime solitary confinement for Knox and two months for Sollecito.A verdict is expected in early October. Next week a lawyer for the victim’s family and the defense teams will deliver their closing arguments. Knox, of Seattle, Washington, and Sollecito were convicted by a lower court of sexually assaulting and murdering Meredith Kercher while they were all studying in Perugia in 2007. Knox was sentenced to 26 years, her co-defendant Raffaele Sollecito to 25 years. They both deny wrongdoing and have appealed the 2009 verdict.

Fox News has reported that the FBI is looking into the alleged hacking of Scarlett Johansson’s cellphone and the possible leak of Scarlett Johansson nude photos online. “The FBI is aware of the alleged hacking incident and is looking into it,” an FBI official told FoxNews.com. The FBI has been investigating hacks into the email accounts of many celebrities recently, including those of Vanessa Hudgens and Jessica Alba. The photos surfaced online today, and TMZ reports that Johannson, 26, made the request that the FBI track down the perpetrators. Brian Urlacher leaves Chicago Bears after mom’s death Posted: 14 Sep 2011 03:01 PM PDT Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher has left the team after his mother, Lavoyda, died unexpectedly at her home in Texas, the team said Wednesday. “My first priority right now is to be with my family as we mourn her loss and make the arrangements to lay her to rest,” Urlacher said in a statement. “This is a very difficult and emotional time for us and I sincerely ask that you respect our privacy.” It is not known if Urlacher will be back in time for Sunday’s game at New Orleans. Back in March, TMZ reported that a group of hackers stole the nude photos of up to 50 A-list actresses, hacking into their email accounts to take the sensitive shots. Vanessa Hudgens, who was one of the most prominent victims of naked piracy, spoke with the FBI about the situation, and word was that the investigators were hot on the trail of the hackers. Amongst the starlets who allegedly had their pictures compromised was Scarlett Johansson, and early Wednesday, the photos leaked online to a number of sites, including Celebrity Dirty Laundry. Whether or not the pictures are real remains to be seen (they look less than authentic, to say the least), but TMZ now reports that sources close to the actress confirm that she is dealing with the FBI over the matter. Johansson will star in the upcoming Marvel teamup film, "The Avengers," out next summer.

The 26-year-old actress’ name was among 50 or so possible victims mentioned in March in connection with an investigation of a hacking ring targeting celebrities’ email accounts and smartphones, looking for dirt. The somewhat fuzzy photos posted Wednesday on BuzzFeed are of a woman who appears to be Johansson, taking iPhone pictures of her own bare backside and breasts. “The FBI is aware of the alleged hacking incident and is looking into it,” an FBI official told Fox News. Sources told TMZ that the FBI would be contacted over what the ScarJo camp believed to be a criminal act. BuzzFeed poster Diane D. noted, “I spent more time than is probably healthy trying to figure out if these are legit. … Call me skeptical but gifts like this don’t just fall out of the sky. Then again, her iPhone was hacked in March with rumors of nude photos to be forthcoming.” (Several other sites followed up with censored versions of the Johansson shots; the unstoppably curious can see the still-not-safe-for-work images here.) Take a look at the second picture and notice how "Scarlett" is looking downwards from her phone but the naked person in the mirror is looking up AT the phone. It's very iffy at this point but I'm willing to accept any argument that it MIGHT be her. And besides, I can't argue that those big tits aren't hers! So until something gets announced (or denounced), let's all just assume that this is just some kind o' Photoshop job done right. Bravo, Mr. Photoshopper, you are my new friend!

She hit a Republican brick wall of opposition, which sent her back to Massachusetts to take on the same cause of fighting for the average person, but in a different capacity. Senator Brown is already ramping up the case that he is also the Wall St. reformer because of his vote in favor of the Dodd-Frank bill. While Senator Brown enjoys the privilege of being the most popular politician in Massachusetts, a recent poll shows that as an undeclared candidate, Elizabeth Warren only trailed him by 9 points, with 14 months until the election. Warren will not be making any speeches. She will be traveling to gateway cities around Massachusetts and Boston meeting as many people as she can, something Martha Coakley didn't really emphasize on during the 2010 special election. The campaign will instead put up a video of her, talking about the points she will make during this campaign. Warren said,"The pressures on middle class families are worse than ever, but it is the big corporations that get their way in Washington." in the script given to the Boston Globe, today. Insiders have long worried that the financial situation of the other Democrats running would be no match for Brown massive war chest, he has accumulated from the likes of Wall St. and the infamous Koch Brothers. The one big issue facing Scott Brown is voter turnout. In 2012 the voter turnout and more importantly the Democratic base will be out in droves because of the Presidential election. This is an advantage to Warren, but no reason to become complacent.

Lymphoma Types, Symptoms, Prognosis, Treatment, Stages & Survival Rates Posted: 12 Sep 2011 10:00 AM PDT Lymphoma Overview Lymphoma is a type of cancer involving cells of the immune system, called lymphocytes. Just as cancer represents many different diseases, lymphoma represents many different cancers of lymphocytes — about 35 different subtypes, in fact. Lymphoma is a group of cancers that affect the cells that play a role in the immune system and primarily represents cells involved in the lymphatic system of the body. The lymphatic system is part of the immune system. It consists of a network of vessels that carry a fluid called lymph, similar to the way that the network of blood vessels carry blood throughout the body. Lymph contains white blood cells called lymphocytes. Lymphocytes attack a variety of infectious agents as well as many cells in the precancerous stages of development. Lymph nodes are small collections of lymph tissue that occur throughout the body. The lymphatic system involves lymphatic channels that connect thousands of lymph nodes scattered throughout the body. Lymph flows through the lymph nodes, as well as through other lymphatic tissues including the spleen, the tonsils, the bone marrow, and the thymus gland. These lymph nodes filter the lymph, which may carry bacteria, viruses, or other microbes. At infection sites, large numbers of these microbial organisms collect in the regional lymph nodes and produce the swelling and tenderness typical of a localized infection. These enlarged and occasionally confluent collections of lymph nodes (so-called lymphadenopathy) are often referred to as “swollen glands.” In some areas of the body (such as the anterior part of the neck), they are often visible when swollen. Lymphocytes recognize infectious organisms and abnormal cells and destroy them. There are two major subtypes of lymphocytes: B lymphocytes and T lymphocytes, also referred to as B cells and T cells. B lymphocytes produce antibodies (proteins that circulate through the blood and lymph and attach to infectious organisms and abnormal cells). Antibodies essentially alert other cells of the immune system to recognize and destroy these intruders, also known as pathogens (the process is known as humoral immunity). T cells, when activated, can kill pathogens directly. T cells also play a part in the mechanisms of immune system control, to prevent the system from inappropriate overactivity or underactivity (in the process of cell mediated immunity). After fighting off an invader, some of the B and T lymphocytes “remember” the invader and are prepared to fight it off if it returns. Cancer occurs when normal cells undergo a transformation whereby they grow and multiply uncontrollably. Lymphoma is a malignant transformation of either B or T cells or their subtypes. As the abnormal cells multiply, they may collect in one or more lymph nodes or in other lymph tissues such as the spleen. As the cells continue to multiply, they form a mass often referred to as a tumor. Tumors often overwhelm surrounding tissues by invading their space, thereby depriving them of the necessary oxygen and nutrients needed to survive and function normally. In lymphoma, abnormal lymphocytes travel from one lymph node to the next, and sometimes to remote organs, via the lymphatic system. While lymphomas are often confined to lymph nodes and other lymphatic tissue, they can spread to other types of tissue almost anywhere in the body. Lymphoma development outside of lymphatic tissue is called extranodal disease. Lymphomas fall into one of two major categories: Hodgkin’s lymphoma (HL, previously called Hodgkin’s disease) and all other lymphomas (non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas or NHLs). These two types occur in the same places, may be associated with the same symptoms, and often have similar appearance on physical examination. However, they are readily distinguishable via microscopic examination. Hodgkin’s disease develops from a specific abnormal B lymphocyte lineage. NHL may derive from either abnormal B or T cells and are distinguished by unique genetic markers. There are five subtypes of Hodgkin’s disease and about 30 subtypes of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Because there are so many different subtypes of lymphoma, the classification of lymphomas is complicated (it includes both the microscopic appearance as well as genetic and molecular markers). Many of the NHL subtypes look similar, but they are functionally quite different and respond to different therapies with different probabilities of cure. HL subtypes are microscopically distinct, and typing is based upon the microscopic differences as well as extent of disease. Lymphoma is the most common type of blood cancer in the United States. It is the seventh most common cancer in adults and the third most common in children. Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma is far more common than Hodgkin’s lymphoma. In the United States, about 66,000 new cases of NHL and 8,500 new cases of HL were expected to be diagnosed in 2010, and the overall incidence is increasing each year. About 20,000 deaths due to NHL were expected in 2010 as well as 1,300 deaths due to HL, with the survival rate of all but the most advanced cases of HL greater than that of other lymphomas. Lymphoma can occur at any age, including childhood. Hodgkin’s disease is most common in two age groups: young adults 16-34 years of age and in older people 55 years of age and older. Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma is more likely to occur in older people.

Another member of the cast not likely to win votes with his charm is Los Angeles Lakers star Ron Artest, who has bounced around from team to team during his NBA career, and his quick temper has often landed him in trouble, most notably earning him the longest NBA suspension ever after a brawl with a spectator in 2004. Other "stars" appearing this season are Chaz Bono, actor David Arquette, former George Clooney arm candy Elisabetta Canalis, singer Chynna Phillips, fashion stylist Carson Kressley, Kristin Cavallari, Ricki Lake, soccer star Hope Solo, All My Children's J.R. Martinez and celebrity brother Rob Kardashian (sister Kim appeared on season 7, finishing in 11th place). Fans of the show are already expressing their displeasure on the ABC website, calling the lineup a "very strange cast of characters" and another saying, "Talk about scraping the bottom of the barrel. Kendall will soon participate in National School Spirit Day, which she says “is kind of a day to recognize cheerleaders and what they do for the community,” because apparently cheerleaders don’t get enough attention. If you’re like me and think that “what cheerleaders do for the community” is give their peers reasons to feel insecure, make out with the guys on the football team and steal Hunter Robinson from me a week before prom like a stupid cheating **** even though I heard she stuffs her bra and isn’t even that pretty without makeup on but everyone knows she puts out, then you’d be wrong. They also volunteer, apparently. How does this girl find time to be a reality TV personality, cheerleader, model and do volunteer work? They spent three years together, dodged incessant engagement/marriage rumors, and celebrated two baseball landmarks: a World Series in 2009 and Jeter's 3,000th hit earlier this year. When Just Jared broke the breakup story early Friday morning, the first email from a Yankee fan read, "Wonder if it happened a month ago, and that's why Jeter's average has skyrockted." Jeter, who labored through the first few months of the season in the worst slump of his Hall of Fame career, had three hits yesterday to boost his average to .299 (it was briefly over .300 during the game). Minka Kelly has a new show coming out next month, Charlie's Angels. It will probably be terrible. It certainly won't be as impressive as her last show, Friday Night Lights. Did anyone see 'The Roommate?' I did not, but I might get it on netflix this weekend while I'm hiding from the hurricane.

Kate Winslet Escape Fire at Richard Branson’s Home Video & Photo Posted: 22 Aug 2011 03:30 PM PDT Kate Winslet and her family had quite a scare during their Caribbean vacation. The Oscar winner — along with her children — was forced to evacuate the island home of British mogul Richard Branson in the middle of the night due to a fire. Branson confirmed to the Associated Press that Kate was staying in the eight-bedroom Great House on Necker, his private isle in the British Virgin Islands. He was staying on another property 100 yards away with his wife Joan and son Sam, 25, when the fire broke out around 4 a.m., caused by wind and lightning. Richard confirmed everyone escaped safely. "Kate Winslet, her boyfriend and her family were there…. and some of her friends were also staying," he said in a statement. "My mother was there, and they managed to get her out and she is fine."
