Tamilnadu electricity board TNEB tariff Posted: 03 Apr 2010 02:39 AM PDT She alleged that the bulk of TNEB's coal imports are from the coal mines owned by Star Emmsons Resource, which acquired Indonesia's Bara Energy Makmur. She said Star Emmsons Resource is promoted by the Dubai-based ETA Star Group, which owns East Coast Construction (ECC) that is constructing the Rs 700-crore new secretariat complex in Chennai and the multi-crore new state library complex at Kotturpuram. The ETA-Star insurance company that has been handed over the Rs 2000-crore insurance scheme of the State government is owned by the group, which has found noteworthy mention in the Sarkaria Commission report for its dishonourable role in the construction of the Anna flyover at Gemini intersection in Chennai, way back in 1973, she said. The group had distributed Karunanidhi's film Pillaiyo Pillai, in which he launched his elder son Mu Ka Muthu as a competitor to MGR, she said. New-borns and old people bear the brunt of the harsh summer without fans, the reason why more and more inverters are being sold, says a resident of Iyer Bungalow. An 850-watt inverter powers two fans, one tube light and a television set for six hours. The electricity bill has not increased much since installing the inverter and it also ensures that the back-up kicked in without interruption in power supply, he says. S Gandhi of the Power Engineers Society of Tamil Nadu said there should not be any subsidy for the elites. "Those who consume more than 600 units should not be given any subsidy.
