The Chieftans Release their New Album to Mark the Cinco De Mayo day Posted: 04 May 2010 11:17 AM PDT The famous Irish band The Chieftans put an album to celebrate the Cinco de Mayo day, putting forward a perfect story of Irish heroism in Mexico's long history. The lead singer of the band Paddy Moloney describes it as a "tone poem". The Cheiftans are considered to be one of the world's most celebrated Irish music group. They have in altogether won six Grammys. The Cinco de Mayo history traces back to the San Patricio battalion in which a group of Irish immigrants left the then U.S. Army to form forces with the Mexican side in the Mexican-American War in 1846. Though they are deemed to be traitors in the U.S. , Mexicans consider them as heroes as they consider the war to be unjust aggression. Moloney describes the recording of the album as a big party which took place in Mexico for over a month. He hopes that by releasing this album on the Cinco De Mayo day, it will highlight the San Patricio battalion and the amazing bond that Ireland and Mexico share.

Fire chief of Nashville, Kim Lawson expected more drown bodies to be found when the water receded. The Opryland Hotel flood pictures were most searched on the net to see the kind of havoc the flood had created. The imagery portrayed by the media was that the Opryland Hotel was in about 10 feet of water with chairs and tables floating with wine glasses on top. The devastating Nashville flooding pictures were floating all over the online sea with even the city airport in 13.53 inches of flood. Homes have had to be evacuated as the place is almost unlivable right now. Since the Nashville flooding took place on the weekend, the damage caused is much less had it been on a weekday. Pakistani origin suspect admits role in Times Square plot Posted: 04 May 2010 01:04 PM PDT New York, May 6 (IANS) The Times Square bombing bid’s Pakistani-American suspect Faisal Shahzad has admitted involvement in what authorities have now labelled an ‘attempted terrorist attack’, according to US Attorney General Eric Holder. The Justice Department anticipates charging Shahzad ‘with an act of terrorism’, among other things, Holder said Tuesday. ‘It is clear that this was a terrorist plot,’ he said. It could have caused ‘death and destruction in the heart of New York City’. Meanwhile, CNN quoted FBI Deputy Director John Pistole as saying Shahzad was on the federal ‘no fly’ list, which helped lead to Customs and Border Protection agents arresting him on a plane preparing to depart New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport. Shahzad, 30, was arrested around 11.45 p.m. Monday at Kennedy Airport, and he will appear in a Manhattan federal courtroom after 2 p.m. Tuesday. Holder said that Shahzad has been providing useful information since his arrest. The suspect was questioned before and after having his rights read to him, Pistole said. Shahzad’s purchase of a ticket to Islamabad, Pakistan, with cash ‘flagged him’ to the airline’s staff, CNN said citing a senior official with Emirates Airlines in Dubai. The official said the airline’s staff regarded the purchase as unusual. The suspect had no reservation and bought his ticket with cash at the counter. The official said Emirates staff informed security officials at the airport immediately. Rain plays spoilsport as New Zealand march into Super Eights Posted: 04 May 2010 12:58 PM PDT Guyana, May 4 (IANS) Rain played spoilsport here for the second day in a row but this time assured New Zealand’s march into Super Eights as topper from Group B with a seven-run win over Zimbabwe via the Duckworth/Lewis Method here Tuesday. Set a target of 85, New Zealand were 36 for one on 8.1 overs, with Brendan McCullum batting on 22 and Martin Guptill on six, when the rain came down heavily at the Providence National Stadium. Even after an hour, play was not possible and had to be called off as the outfield was still wet and organisers wanted to prepare the ground for the next match. The Duckworth-Lewis Method adjudged New Zealand winners by seven runs. New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori’s decision to bowl first, under overcast conditions, paid off as the bowlers skittled out Zimbabwe for 84 runs in 15.1 overs. Openers Tatenda Taibu (21) and Hamilton Masakadza (20) were the notable scorers for Zimbabwe. Slow bowlers did the trick for New Zealand, as off-spinner Nathan McCullum and Scott Styris picked up three wickets each while left-arm spinner Vettori got two. Taibu and Masakadza gave Zimbabwe a great start with their 36-run partnership, but Taibu’s departure in the fifth over triggered a collapse as they lost all the remaining wickets for just 48 runs. While chasing, New Zealand batsmen knew that rain clouds were not far away and McCullum took on the Zimbabwe bowlers en route to become the first batsman to score 1,000 runs in Twenty20 international. Vettori lauded his slow bowlers for the win. ‘We fought back well in the middle stages. Nathan and Scott Styris. We knew it would be a difficult track to bat with Zimbabwe having so many spinners and we did well to come back in the middle overs,’ he said. Dejected Zimbabwe captain Prosper Utseya said his team lacked experience. ‘It is disappointing. We had a good start but we didn’t play well in the middle. Inexperience mattered a lot for our team. If you see in both the warm-up games we didn’t have a good start. There is potential no doubt. But some guys have to mature as cricketers,’ he said. New Zealand vs Zimbabwe T20 Live Score: NZ won the toss, Bowling First Posted: 04 May 2010 06:36 AM PDT New Zealand is leading with its penultimate-ball victory on Friday and can easily secure its berth in the final eight in ICC World Cup. Rain didn't let Zimbabwe chase 44 runs off five overs but it only manage to score 29 which ultimately affected their net run rate. Zimbabwe appeared promising in its practice matches when it beat Australia and Pakistan, but now it require a big victory over other teams that are very much in form so that it can also progress to secure its spot in finals. At the time when they were being promising weather became cruel towards them. Nathan McCullum’s six secured New Zealand in the game against Sri Lanka as well as boosted their confidence. New Zealand was reluctant to visit Zimbabwe as they were concerned for their safety. They last played together in 2005 after that this will be their first match. Even being injured Jacob Oram gave his best last week. Where Nathan McCullum added the credit against Sri Lanka, Oram’s two sixes has also taken his team forward. His 15 runs off six balls were an impressive treat for practice match against West Indies. “Zimbabwe are not going to be easy, they’ve just beaten Australia and Pakistan in warm-up games. There are no easy games here,” said New Zealand’s coach Mark Greatbatch. Zimbabwe is delighted on the arrival of Elton Chigumbura. He ultimately turned up as his outstanding presence is crucial to the team. “Against Australia and Pakistan he struck the ball brilliantly,” the coach Alan Butcher said. “He could be a star of the tournament if we do manage to sneak a win and progress.” Any amendments with a winning unit are not good for New Zealand therefore they are unlikely to incorporate any changes. “We’ve named the same 12 so the only change possibly could be Kyle Mills coming in,” the captain Daniel Vettori said. “But I’d suggest we’d probably go in with the same 11.” New Zealand's probable team could be: 1 Brendon McCullum, 2 Jesse Ryder, 3 Martin Guptill, 4 Ross Taylor, 5 Scott Styris, 6 Daniel Vettori (capt), 7 Jacob Oram, 8 Gareth Hopkins (wk), 9 Nathan McCullum, 10 Tim Southee, 11 Shane Bond. The weather restricted Zimbabwe in such a way that even they are not sure to judge performances. Zimbabwe's probable team could be: 1 Hamilton Masakadza, 2 Tatendu Taibu (wk), 3 Brendon Taylor, 4 Craig Ervine, 5 Charles Coventry, 6 Elton Chigumbura, 7 Greg Lamb, 8 Graeme Cremer, 9 Prosper Utseya (capt), 10 Ray Price, 11 Chris Mpofu. The Pitch both teams are going to face is slow in speed and lacks bounce that can be reason for concern for New Zealand. Whereas, Zimbabwe can incorporate its slow bowlers to deal with this kind of a pitch. “We’ve got a bit of work to do with spin and with playing the spin,” the coach Mark Greatbatch said. “Spinners have done exceptionally well in Twenty20 all over the world. Taking pace off the ball is a vital tactic,” added Alan Butcher, the Zimbabwe coach.
