America’s Next Top Model 2010: Piece of Flesh Krista Takes The Prestigious Title Home

Posted: 13 May 2010 12:24 PM PDT

The 14th round of super hot Tyro Banks Hit show "America's Next Top Model 2010" came to a controversial end as super skinny Krista grabbed the coveted title home.

America's Next super model winner Krista had made efforts even before this multiple times but she never won the title before this. This time she faced some stiff competition and got the award of America's Next Supermodel 2010 in her lap.

Numbers of fans were thrilled in the show as many fans were agitated also. There joy knew no bounds at seeing the high fashion model at winning gold while others were mad in anger at Tyra's decision of declaring someone super skinny like Krista as a winner of the competition.

Now there is one question hitting the mind of everyone that what does Tyra wants to prove by declaring Krista as the America's next top model? Many were amazed that why does she want to bring humiliation to all the aspirants who dream to join this field by forcing them to Krista like skinny damsel as their role model.

America's Next Top ModelTyra's hatred has come public many times. Even a child knows how much she hates this modeling world! So far as her astonishingly shocking decision of making Krista America's next top model is concerned so at this tyra says that industry is full of plus sized girls who try to loose some weight and become like Krista. So it is better to give someone like Krista who is already like some piece of flesh in advance.

For this decision which is indigestible as well as beyond anyone's gumption Tyra must be given a huge round of applause for proving that only pieces of flesh have what it takes to be the America's Next Super Model.

Had anyone else been a judge and used his gumption sensibly so he or she would have declared Angelea declared the winner of the America's Next Top Model Award 2010 even if she did not have anything that is required to clinch the prestigious title.

Ascension Day

Ascension Day

(Daily latest News) The Ascension Day celebrated on the 13th of May symbolizes Jesus' ascension into the heaven after resurrection on Easter, as per the Christian doctrine. It comes 40 days after Easter Sunday and is also known as Holy Thursday.

One of the important occasions observed under Christian faith, the term Ascension denotes the departure of Jesus from earth in the presence of his 11 disciples and is seated at the right hand of the Holy Father, according to the Gospels and Acts of the Apostles. As per Catholic Catechism, the three theological aspects of ascension are: the definitive entrance of Jesus' humanity into God; ignites the hope that as the members of Jesus' body we are also destined to be with him; and that Jesus constantly acts as a mediator with the promise of bestowing the Holy Spirit. It is also the final component of the paschal mystery, the others being Jesus' Passion, Crucifixion, Death, Burial, Descent Among the Dead, and Resurrection. The lion conquering the dragon is a symbol of the ascension indicating the defeat of Satan's power.

The Ascension Day is followed by Pentecost after 10 days, commemorating the arrival of the Holy Spirit to Christ's disciples.

Social Security number of president Obama Raises Questions

Fraud Obama

Fraud Obama

(Daily latest News) The social security number of US President Barack Hussein Obama has raised concerns as its digits are those of the state of Connecticut with which he seems to have hardly any connections. Though individuals are permitted to register in non-residential under special circumstances, Obama's security card does pose some serious questions.

Obama's social security number
was issued after two years of his first recorded employment. This obviously raises the question as to how he secured a job without the card. According one of the private investigators who is looking into the matter is of the opinion that Obama had obtained one card in Hawaii, and another at some time prior to 1986. The no. is said to have been reused and originally belonged to an individual born in 1890. Then it goes without saying that Obama used a dead person's social security number for some strange reasons only he could explain.

The controversy regarding the social security number may be just an attempt to tarnish the image of Obama and pointing out his illegitimacy in serving as the President of America, so one need to be cautious in getting into conclusions. However, the fact that this is the same man who spent millions as court fees against submitting his birth certificate certainly leaves some level of uneasiness as the issue surfaces.

Missing Money Reclamation gets Simpler with Technology

Posted: 13 May 2010 08:52 AM PDT

(Daily latest News) Missing money or unclaimed money lying with the US government can be reclaimed by rather simple procedures facilitated by computerization and advance in technology. Every year, millions of dollars lay unclaimed with the banks, insurance companies as well as the other. For instance, the Commonwealth of Virginia currently holds $300 million dollars that belong to this category.

Missing money usually arises when the money has been forgotten or out of failure in identifying the owners. Such a possibility can occur due to sudden demise of the holder, leaving near and dear ones unaware of the property. However, the state wants its citizens to reclaim their hard-earned money by providing ample proof wherever required. Also it needs to be ensured that while making investments each one's kin is informed about the details. This could prove beneficial for them especially in times of emergency. The state returns a considerable amount of money every year, but that is just a negligible part.

Unclaimed money continues to lie so, as the citizens fear the procedure for reclamation is too tedious and complicated. But things have changed with the advent of technology and computerization, and can be done just with the touch of one's finger tips. Increase in transparency and use of modern techniques are making the process of reclamation faster and easier.

Graphite India to expand Durgapur plant capacity

Posted: 13 May 2010 01:10 PM PDT

Kolkata, May 13 (IANS) Graphite electrodes manufacturer Graphite India Ltd (GIL) will expand the capacity of its Durgapur plant in West Bengal to 20,000 tonnes per annum within the third quarter (October-December) of 2011-12, a top company official said Thursday.

‘Earlier we have planned to expand it by 10,500 tonnes per annum but now keeping in view the rise in demand from the steel industry one-and-a-half years down the line we are taking it to 20,000 tonnes per annum,’ K.K. Bangur, company chairman, told reporters at a press conference here.

The initial investment for 10,500 tonnes per annum expansion was Rs.180 crore. An additional Rs.67.50 crore will be invested for another 9,500 tonnes per annum.

Asked about funding of the project, he said: ‘We plan to do it through internal accruals and, if required, we may borrow some amount also.’

The company has earlier decided to set up a coal-based power plant of 50 MW capacity at Durgapur at an investment of Rs.214 crore.

The net profit of the company during January-March period of 2009-10 was Rs.55 crore.

GIL has a combined capacity of around 78,000 tonnes per annum spread over four plants at Durgapur, Bangalore, Nashik and Rothenbach in Germany.

Slain Delhi scribe’s mother appeals for bail

Posted: 13 May 2010 01:10 PM PDT

Ranchi, May 13 (IANS) The mother of Delhi-based journalist Nirupama Pathak, who was allegedly killed for her relationship with a man from different caste, Thursday moved a bail application in Jharkhand’s Koderma district court.

Sudha Pathak’s petition was filed in court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) N.K. Agrawal and the hearing is likely to take place Friday.

Sudha was arrested May 3 on charges of murder after her daughter Nirupama was found dead in her home April 29.

The family members insist that Nirupama committed suicide but her boyfriend Priyabhanshu Ranjan alleges that she was killed as the family was against their relationship.

Jharkhand police interrogated Ranjan and his friends in New Delhi. A case of rape and murder has also been filed against Ranjan on the directions of the court.

Niruapama’s autopsy report has also added to the confusion on the cause of death. Doctors who conducted the post-mortem examination say it was a case of murder but they have failed establish how Nirupama was murdered.

The report said Nirupama was 10-12 weeks pregnant at the time of her death.

The police Wednesday submitted their investigation progress report to Jharkhand police chief Neyaz Ahmad.

March to home ministry for CBI probe in Nirupama’s death

Posted: 13 May 2010 01:08 PM PDT

New Delhi, May 13 (IANS) Friends and colleagues of Delhi journalist Nirupama Pathak, murdered in her Jharkhand home April 29, will take out a march from the Press Club to the home ministry Saturday to demand a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into her death.

The march is being organised by the Press Club of India and Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) alumni group under the banner ‘Justice for Nirupama’.

The march will start at 5.30 p.m. from the Press Club and culminate at the North Block office of the home ministry where the protesters will submit a memorandum demanding a CBI inquiry into the case, organisers said.

Pathak, 23, had gone home in Koderma town of Jharkhand April 19 and was due to return April 28, but her reservation was cancelled. She was found dead April 29.

She passed out of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) last year, and was in a relationship with her former batchmate – which her parents reportedly did not approve of.

Pathak’s family insists that she committed suicide. But the post-mortem examination revealed she was smothered to death and that she was 10-12 weeks pregnant.

Australia not taking Pakistan lightly in semi-final

Posted: 13 May 2010 01:08 PM PDT

Gros Islet (St.Lucia), May 13 (IANS) Australian captain Michael Clarke can’t resist the temptation of facing England in the World Twenty20 final, but for now he is not thinking beyond Friday’s semi-final against holders Pakistan.

On the eve of the semi-final here Thursday, Clarke was candid in admitting that he is looking forward to face England in the final and set the tone for the summer’s Ashes series in Australia.

‘I’d look forward to that, yeah. If we beat Pakistan and meet England in the final, it would be a good start to what is going to be a very good and interesting summer back in Australia as with the Ashes,’ Clarke said.

‘For me, right now I’ve got both eyes on Pakistan and I’ll worry about everything else after that.’

Clarke is wary of a Pakistan side, who have peaked at the right time, having been well beaten by 34 runs by Australia in a first round group match at Beausejour.

‘This game Friday is a huge game for us. It’s going to be tough. Pakistan have a lot of spinners and they have a lot of class,’ Clarke said. ‘Beating them a week ago is irrelevant. If we beat them, it doesn’t bother me who we play in the final. We’ll keep our fingers crossed. We’d love the trophy.’

Australia haven’t won the two previous World Twenty20s, but this time they look like a motivated lot with fast bowling trio Dirk Nannes, Mitchell Johnson and Shaun Tait in the wickets and dynamic opener David Warner leading a powerful batting line-up.

‘No doubt it has motivated every player, not just throughout this tournament but throughout the last 12 months. We weren’t performing as well as we would have liked in this form of the game. We’ve certainly improved over the last 12 months. We’ve had to work very hard to get to the position we’re in. Even in this tournament there have been no easy games,’ said Clarke.

Pawar criticises Gadkari for his remarks

Posted: 13 May 2010 01:06 PM PDT

New Delhi, May 13 (IANS) Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar Thursday took exception to the expressions used by Bharatiya Janata Pary (BJP) president Nitin Gadkari against Samajwadi Party (SP) and Rashtriya Janata Party (RJD) leaders, saying that no civilised person should use such language.

‘Whether national or state leaders, no civilised person should use this kind of language,’ Pawar told reporters at the Indian Women’s Press Corps (IWPC).

Agreeing that political leaders in the past were more circumspect in the use of language, he said there was a large section among present-day politicians too who did not like the use of intemperate language.

Gadkari Wednesday night accused SP chief Mulayam Singh and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad of betraying the opposition during the cut motions in parliament’s recently-concluded budget session.

‘Bade dakarte the sher jaise, aur kutte ke jaise ban kar Sonia-ji aur Congress ke ghar par talve chatne lage (These leaders were roaring like lions but later bowed like dogs to lick the feet of Sonia and the Congress),’ he told a rally in Chandigarh. Gadkari later apologised for the remarks but the SP and RJD refused to accept his regret.

Answering queries, Pawar said that there were no divisions among north Indians and Marathis living in Mumbai. ‘The state has always respected other people… This (divide) is not a thing of masses… Maybe some political parties have this position,’ he said.

He said only about 25 percent population in Mumbai was Marathi-speaking.

John gets romantic with Pakhi on Westminster Bridge

Posted: 13 May 2010 01:06 PM PDT

Mumbai, May 13 (IANS) John Abraham and newcomcer Pakhi are among the very few non-English actors to shoot on the iconic Westminster Bridge in the heart of London for ‘1-800-Love’.

Between May 11 and 13 John Abraham shot romantic scenes with his co-star Pakhi, wife of the film’s writer-drector Abbas Tyrewala, at one of London’s most scenic and tourist-friendly locations, the Westminster Bridge that straddles the River Thames.

‘The idea is to shoot in places in London that are not exposed,’ John told IANS.

‘Apart from the Westminster Bridge, we’ll also shoot at the Marble Arch and Jubilee Park. We want the London visible in our film to look different. Otherwise, we’ve been to London so many times for Bollywood films our audiences know almost every inch of the city by heart.’

Though some British and Hollywood films have been shot on the banks of River Thames, no Indian unit had hitherto been granted permission to shoot on the Westminster Bridge.

Incidentally, when Londoners flock to greet John, he turns around to introduce Pakhi as ‘The star of tomorrow. Take her autograph, not mine’.’

Planning to start a production house: Paintal

Posted: 13 May 2010 01:04 PM PDT

New Delhi, May 8 (IANS) After having worked in the film industry for almost three decades and exploring his passion for teaching, Kanwarjit Paintal now wants to start a production house of his own.

‘I am not keen about direction but what I really want to do next is to start my own production house. I am working on the details or can say am in the pre-production stage of it,’ Paintal told IANS in an interview.

Kanwarjit Paintal, who is popularly known as Paintal, started off as an Indian comic actor and agrees he was typecast to the genre for a very long duration.

‘I established myself as a comic actor, so I was offered and got restricted in those limitations,’ Paintal said about being typecast in his early film years.

‘I completely agree I was typecast to the genre but I worked hard to get through the image and tried a lot of different roles. It was challenging for me but I proved myself and that makes me proud,’ the actor added.

Paintal will next be seen in ‘Vroom, Adventures of Smarty, the Magical Car’ directed by Savin Tuscano. It is the story of a car with a mind of its own. Along with Paintal the film features Daisy Irani, comedian Naveen Prabhakar and newcomers Gaurav Bajaj and Nina Sarkar.

Slated for a May 14 release, the film will have Paintal donning the character of a scientist working on a chip that makes objects come alive.

‘I play the role of a scientist (who is a little crazy) working on a wonder chip which can turn any object alive. It’s an adventure trip of a car which turns alive. It has been very challenging as it is a children oriented film,’ Paintal said.

Paintal’s portfolio includes films like ‘Jawani Diwani’ (1972), ‘Parichay’ (1972), ‘Jangal Mein Mangal’ (1972), ‘Heera Panna’ (1973) and ‘Satte Pe Satta’(1982).

The actor, who is 54 years old, revealed he is passionate about teaching and claims to be a certified workaholic.

‘I love teaching, it has made me grow as an individual. If by god’s grace I stay fit, I want to work for 20-30 years more. I am a certified workaholic,’ Paintal said about his work habits.

‘In fact, I can work 36 to 40 hours at a stretch. I am passionate about what I do and this is what keeps me going even at this age. I hardly get time to laze around,’ he added.

Paintal has two films in the pipeline, one of them being untitled till now and the other falling under the horror genre.

SP, RJD put Gadkari in dog house for his remark

Posted: 13 May 2010 01:00 PM PDT

Chandigarh/Patna/New Delhi, May 13 (IANS) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Gadkari’s ‘regret’ for his remarks likening Mulayam Singh Yadav and Lalu Prasad to ‘dogs who lick the feet of the Congress and Sonia (Gandhi)’, failed to cut ice with the two leaders and their parties threatened legal action and even to pay him back in the same coin.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Samajwadi Party (SP) remained adamant on taking on Gadkari for his unparliamentary language.

Gadkari at a press meet in Chandigarh Thursday said: ‘I regret the comment made yesterday (Wednesday) and take back my words. I have a lot of respect for Mulayam Singh Yadav and Lalu Prasad. The comment created a wrong impression.’

‘Meri baat ki bhavna alag thi (The essence of my comment was different). I did not want to hurt anyone,’ the BJP chief added.

In Uttar Pradesh, SP activists Thursday indulged in violence in Allahabad and Lucknow districts over Gadkari’s disparaging remarks against their party chief Mulayam Singh, police said.

Gadkari Wednesday night accused Mulayam Singh and Lalu Prasad of betraying the opposition on the recent cut motions in parliament.

‘ ‘Bade dakarte the sher jaise, aur kutte ke jaise ban kar Sonia-ji aur Congress ke ghar par talve chatne lage’ (These leaders were roaring like lions but later bowed like dogs to lick the feet of Sonia and the Congress),’ he told a rally in Chandigarh Wednesday night.

An outraged Lalu Prasad said in Patna that he refused to accept Gadkari’s retraction. He said firmly that he doesn’t believe in apologies and would teach the opposition leader a lesson in decency.

‘Gadkari needlessly used shameful words. Called us dogs who lick feet. Previous BJP chiefs, including L.K. Advani, would have never used such shameful words even as they severely criticised us. We are taking it seriously,’ an unforgiving Lalu Prasad told reporters.

‘We don’t believe in apologies and words being taken back. We will teach him a lesson in decency. We too have phrases but we won’t use them,’ Lalu Prasad said.

In New Delhi, the SP said it would file a case of caste discrimination against Gadkari.

‘His remarks reflect caste discrimination. We will take legal opinion and file a case against him,’ SP spokesperson Mohan Singh told IANS.

Referring to Gadkari’s expression of regret, he said the BJP leader should also apologise to crores of Dalits and people of backward classes and minorities.

The RJD and SP leaders have sought Gadkari’s resignation and even asked the BJP to sack him.

A handful of RJD workers gathered outside the Chandigarh Press Club and shouted slogans against Gadkari and the BJP as the leader left the venue after his interaction with reporters.

Beyond the regret, the BJP president refused to say anything more.

‘I have already said what I wanted to. I don’t want to add anything more to it,’ Gadkari told reporters in Chandigarh.

In Patna, the RJD leaders remained defiant.

The RJD’s Chhotu Singh said: ‘We burnt effigies of Gadkari at busy Dak Bungalow Square in Patna to show our anger and to protest his abusive remarks against Lalu Prasad.’

Senior RJD leader Ram Kirpal Yadav told IANS: ‘We will not sit silent. We are ready to expose Gadkari’s narrow mindset.’

In Lucknow, several activists took to the streets shouting anti-BJP slogans, targeted vehicles in Hazratganj area and clashed with the police.

In Allahabad, SP workers indulged in vandalism at a BJP office in the Civil Lines and roughed up several BJP workers there, damaging furniture and other office property.

Police used force in both the districts to disperse the SP activists. Over 50 SP workers were detained.

‘Taking into account the series of protests by the SP activists, security has been beefed around the BJP office,’ inspector R.B Singh told reporters in Allahabad.

Bangkok, May 13 (IANS) An anti-government leader in Thailand was shot in the head during a rally here Thursday evening.

Maj. Gen. Khattiya Sawasdipol suffered a gun wound in his head during an anti-government rally near Bangkok’s main business area, Silom Road. Supreme Court refuses to help legislator who holds court

Posted: 13 May 2010 12:58 PM PDT

New Delhi, May 13 (IANS) The Supreme Court Thursday declined to interfere with the Allahabad High Court’s proceedings looking into allegations that a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) legislator from Uttar Pradesh holds a parallel court and dispenses justice.

A bench of Chief Justice S.H. Kapadia, Justice K.S. Radhakrishnan and Justice Swatanter Kumar let the high court deal with the matter as it was seized of a magisterial inquiry report into the activities of legislator Mohammad Iqbal, who represents Chandpur constituency.

As per the allegations levelled against Iqbal by a petitioner in the high court, he holds court every Sunday where people appear before him and after hearing the rival parties he gives his ruling. It has been alleged that he even levies ‘court fee’ on the people who appear before him.

The matter came up before the apex court Thursday over a petition filed by the legislator, also known as ‘Thekedar MLA’.

He challenged the high court decision to consider April 15, 2010, a report of the district judge and a magistrate on his activities.

The chief justice of the high court had ordered the re-sealing of the report after reportedly describing it shocking.

A public interest ligiation (PIL) against Iqbal was filed in the high court by Sher Baz Khan.

Appearing for Iqbal in the apex court, senior counsel Mukul Rohtagi said the case against his client in the high court was, in fact, a private interest litigation inspired by a sense of retribution.

He told the apex court that the PIL was filed by Khan, who himself was facing 14 criminal cases involving cheating and impersonation.

Rohtagi told the apex court that the magisterial report on the basis of which the high court was proceeding against the legislator has not even been shown to him.

Rohtagi said that if the PIL was targeted at a particular person, the high court had to be careful to see if in the guise of public interest there is intent to unleash a private vendetta or personal grouse.
