Posted: 18 May 2010 12:51 AM PDT Kites ready for same time appearance on 21st May on more than 2,000 cinema halls globally, involving 200 in North America. Kites, lead performers are Hrithik Roshan & Mexican star Barbara Mori and may ready for the world-wide film marketing to Indian films. Rakesh Roshan, producer of Kites & dad of Hrithik Roshan revealed on a phone conversation “If Kites does even five percent well of what we have thought, well, we have opened the door, not for me and my film, but for many young filmmakers in India.” He further told “They have good ideas, but they are not as good as producers because they are scared that ‘No, no, this will not work’. So once you have a bigger territory globally and have an audience to see it, then you can take a chance to make a film like that. " Rakesh again told ” Shot completely on location in Las Vegas, Sante Fe and Los Angeles, a re-worked English language version of Kites, presented by A-list Hollywood director Brett Ratner, will open in several major markets for the Memorial Day holiday weekend beginning May 28." Ratner, proposed to again edit the English version of the Kites to regulate it “to US sensibilities” after viewing the print later an informal dinner interaction at his house in LA. Roshan told “made the film a little crispier, a littler racier and a little faster." He revealed that it was the entire planning to cast Barbara Mori, who is “a very good actor, a very fine looking girl, a very stunning looking girl” after seeing My Brother’s Wife, a Mexican movie that he “loved very intensely”. Therefore, Anurag Basu (Kites movie-maker) & Rakesh Roshan gave a visit to LA to have a meeting with Barbara Mori. Rakesh told about Mori “She was very excited about the script and the screenplay. And then she was there in the film." Representing Barbara was no publicity stunt for Rakesh Roshan. He would not desire to comment on “those films” where abroad actresses were immediate one of the characters. “But here my leading lady is the main protagonist of the film. Getting some girls and some character actors in one reel or two scenes will not really make a difference.” Rakesh too rejected the huge arising debate over some clear footage in the English version of the Kites in Indian media. He told regarding this “No, there is nothing. When I told them there is no topless scene, they printed one photograph of a backless scene. A backless and a topless scene are two different visions absolutely.” When he inquired over the consideration of Kites, Rakesh Roshan told to launching a film world-wide “I thought the best story to pick up is a love story. And when kites fly they don’t know who is holding the string – an Indian, an American or a Mexican”. The Mexican lady & the Indian guy “don’t speak each other’s language and still they fall in love and we show that language is no barrier. Love has no language”. Rakesh considers Kites will perform well also among non-Indian viewers. Rakesh “My gut feeling is that whenever you go out in a different path and make a film and make it honestly and put your heart and soul in it, audiences do accept it.” Roshan tells regarding several Bollywood movies which are based on amazing concerns that Indian viewers now have “grown up”. “What has happened till now is that most of the filmmakers underestimated the audience. They feel, ‘No, they will not understand’. But I feel today’s generation is far ahead than what we think.” Roshan, who has for once handed over the directorial reins of a film starring his son to another director, said: “It just happened on the spur of the moment.” When Rakesh inquired, does he view Hrithik entering to Hollywood? “I haven’t made this film to launch him in Hollywood. I have made the film to show the global world how good an actor he is. And if a good character or a good role comes to him by a good director… doing an Indian film or doing a Hollywood film is one and the same thing.”
Jensen Ackles and Danneel Harris Wed Posted: 18 May 2010 12:07 AM PDT Congratulations to Jensen Ackles and Danneel Harris, of CW fame, who were married on the 15th of May in Dallas, Texas. Danneel Harris is an actress from the TV series ‘One Tree Hill’. Jensen Ackles plays ‘Dean Winchester’ on the hit show ‘Supernatural’. Danneel and Jensen starred in the film ‘Ten Inch Hero’ together, and were dating for three years before tying the knot. This is Ackles’ first and only marriage, contrary to the vitriol spread by two women “Stephanie and Bianca Ware”. These rumors have been active for the past four years, and spawned many false articles, claiming Jensen and co-star Jared Padalecki’s wives are ‘deluded psychopaths,’ and that Danneel and Genevieve Cortese, Padalecki’s wife, were spreading false rumors, claiming that Danneel and Genevieve have ‘never even met Jared and Jensen.’ This is an incorrect thing to say even just based on the fast that Cortese met her husband Jared working with him on ‘Supernatural’, and Danneel worked on ‘Ten Inch Hero’ with Jensen, as previously stated. This statement shows the lengths the ‘Wares’ will go to to believe and push their delusions on others. I would just like to take this moment to point out that none of these rumours spread by the ‘Wares’ are true, and I urge people to stop spreading these rumors. Danneel Harris herself has stated that none of this is true, via her verified twitter account, @DanneelHarris. As I am quite sure the ‘Wares’ will see this, I would like to urge them both to please venture out into the real world and find partners who will love and accept them for who they are, rather than live in deluded fantasy. They need to accept that the couples they are attacking – because what they are doing is most certainly attacking – will not separate despite their efforts. They are all happily married, and the ‘Wares’ must know that Jared and Jensen would not appreciate their wives being trashed on the internet. I reiterate my sincerest congratulations to Jensen and Danneel, and also to Jared Padalecki and his wife Genevieve Cortese, who were married in March. Image credit to Just Jared.
Water Walking on YouTube: A Walk on Water Sport by 3 Guys, Read Sports Rules Posted: 18 May 2010 12:00 AM PDT There are 3 inventors which have made a game named “liquid mountaineering” by which a person is capable to walk on water by having water-tight shoes. They composed a video on water walking which can be accessible on YouTube website. Read who are they? The 3 risk-takers are Ulf Gartner, Miguel Delfortrie & Sebastian Vanderwerf who allege that it is probable to walk on water. As per Ulf Gartner, what is needed to walk on water is not a wonder but it is possible due to the pair of “good-quality rubber running shoes”. In the last 14 days, YouTube video has become popular that water-walking has also previously been viewed by 2 million audiences. There is a probability that this video might be cheat but it is so well composed that if at all it is a fake video it's cunningly composed. In the water walking YouTube Video, it is revealed that some guys attempts to run over a Portugal lake. Several attempts later they handle themselves to run around 9-10 footsteps over the lake. Ulf Gartner perfectly explained how it is done, he revealed “All you have to do is start running towards the bank of the lake and keep running at top speed. As soon as you touch the water your legs should be going like a sewing machine. You should be just like a stone skimming the surface.” Really, an amazing invention by the 3 risk-takers who have made a game named “liquid mountaineering” which can make possible to walk on water.
Canadian Sikh shot dead in home Posted: 17 May 2010 11:30 PM PDT Vancouver, May 18 (IANS) A Sikh youth has been shot dead in the driveway of his posh home in the Vancouver suburb of Surrey. Chhminder Singh Gill, 32, who was killed Sunday, may have been targeted for his possible criminal links, local media said, though police have not said anything about it yet. A police spokesman said they are investigating his business links. “We still have a lot of work ahead of us to figure out who he is linked to and what he is up to. But definitely he was the intended target of this from what we have learned so far,” he told the local media. Gill lived a posh life with wife Jasvir in a seven-bedroom home valued at $754,000. A farmer as well as businessman, Gill had a partnership in a blueberry farm and his own independent enterprise. One of the fastest growing cities in Canada, Surrey is home to the largest concentration of the Punjabi-Sikh community in Canada. Violence among Indo-Canadian drug gangs here has led to more than 100 deaths over the years, forcing the provincial British Columbia government to set up a gang task force. But it has failed to solve any of these murders.
Eating salami, sausages ups heart disease, diabetes risk Posted: 17 May 2010 11:30 PM PDT Washington, May 18 (IANS) Eating processed meats like salami, sausages and hot dogs is likely to up heart disease and diabetes risk, says a new study. Processed meat is defined as any meat preserved by smoking, curing or salting, or with the addition of chemical preservatives; examples include bacon, salami, sausages, hot dogs or processed deli or luncheon meats. Eating processed meat was associated with a 42 percent higher risk of heart disease and a 19 higher risk of type 2 diabetes. Conversely, researchers did not find any higher risk of heart disease or diabetes among individuals eating unprocessed red meat. “Although most dietary guidelines recommend reducing meat consumption, prior individual studies have shown mixed results for relationships between meat consumption and cardiovascular diseases and diabetes,” said Renata Micha, who led the study. Micha, research fellow in epidemiology at Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) said: “Most prior studies also did not separately consider the health effects of eating unprocessed red versus processed meats.” Researchers, led by Micha and HSPH colleagues Dariush Mozaffarian, assistant professor in epidemiology and Sarah Wallace, junior research fellow, systematically reviewed nearly 1,600 studies. Twenty relevant studies were identified, which included more than 1.2 million individuals from 10 countries on four continents (US, Europe, Australia, and Asia). The researchers defined unprocessed red meat as any unprocessed meat from mutton, beef, lamb or pork, excluding poultry, said a Harvard release. These findings were published online in Circulation.

According to an official of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), passenger traffic was normal at the metro station.
No big wedding for Cameron Diaz Posted: 17 May 2010 11:27 PM PDT London, May 18 (IANS) Cameron Diaz admits to being a hopeless romantic but says she would make her wedding plans at the last minute because she doesn’t believe in extravagant weddings. “The mystique and the romance of a big wedding are lost on me. I don’t think that I could ever do something that extravagant. I am not much of a planner,” contactmusic.com quoted her as saying. “I would probably make the phone call 20 minutes before the bus leaves for the chapel and ask if anyone is available to come. That’s probably how my wedding is going to end up,” she added. The 37-year-old, who is reportedly dating baseball star Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez, insists she doesn’t make plans too far ahead, but does know what she looks for in a man. “I am a romantic. I love romance. I’m not afraid of commitment. I commit to everything I’m doing and I am hopelessly loyal. But I hate predicting the future, I really do, because you just don’t know. I can’t even make up my mind what I’m going to do this weekend. “I think that the rules in relationships are – no tricks, honesty, communication, treat people the way you want to be treated, unconditional love. Those are the things that I think are important. But, you know, rules are made to be broken,” she added.
Bomber killed in Manipur blast Posted: 17 May 2010 11:27 PM PDT Imphal, May 18 (IANS) A militant bomber was killed Tuesday in Manipur while trying to plant an explosive beneath a road bridge, officials said. A police spokesperson said the blast took place over a bridge near Kangpokpi in Senapati district, about 40 km from state capital Imphal. One person was killed and his head was blown away in the impact of the explosion. “We suspect the person killed in the blast was the militant bomber who tried to plant the explosive to target the bridge, but probably something went wrong and the bomb went off,” a senior police official said. The identity of the victim was not immediately known. The area where the explosion took place is a tribal Naga dominated region – the focal point of the ongoing tension in Manipur over the refusal by the state government to allow separatist leader Thuingaleng Muivah to visit his ancestral village in Manipur. “We suspect the blast could have been triggered by some Naga militant group to cut off road links between the rest of India and Manipur as a mark of protest,” the official said. Meanwhile, protests continued in Manipur – with both supporters and opponents of Muivah resorting to demonstrations and rallies in several parts of the state. While Naga supporters are continuing with rallies and sit-in protests in Senapati, Ukhrul, and Tamenglong districts (all Naga dominated areas), the majority Metei in Manipur who are opposed to Muivah’s visit and support the state government’s stand have also resorted to similar protests. “If Muivah is allowed to visit his birthplace in Ukhrul district, the situation would worsen,” B. Yaima, a Metei community leader, said. Naga supporters of Muivah had enforced an indefinite economic blockade by stopping all trucks carrying essentials via National Highway 30, the main lifeline of Manipur, from entering the state. This has led to a severe food crisis in the state. On May 6, three Muivah supporters were killed at the border town of Mao when police fired at protesters trying to let the Naga separatist leader enter Manipur forcibly despite a ban on his entry by the state government.
Telecom companies revive value of the Indian paisa Posted: 17 May 2010 11:23 PM PDT Visiting us during her vacations, Manjari, my teenage niece, asked me if I would help her with a summer project. I agreed. It involved the study of coins. The curious kid wanted to know what a one-paisa coin looked like. Her next question: “What can one paisa buy?” We were amused as to why a teacher would give a “one paisa” project when the cheapest toffee costs 50 paisa, or around one cent. Manjari's search into the shape, size, and metallic content of one paisa coin landed her at the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI’s) monetary museum. She learnt that over a period of time, the cost-benefit considerations led to a gradual discontinuance of 1, 2 and 3 paisa coins in 1970s. Then came a discovery of sorts. There was something that was worth a paisa — offered by the burgeoning, yet highly competitive, Indian telecom industry. For just one paisa, one can talk to someone in the farthest corner of India for one second, or send an SMS of 160 characters to any one of the 600 million mobile phone users in India. Not only that, one can extract more from the service provider if the bill plan is well chosen. Of course, it also depends on the desperation of the service provider to acquire and retain a customer. The Indian telecom industry, the world's fastest growing, must be credited with applying all the marketing tricks ranging from product or service sampling, marginal costing, happy hours, family and friends packs among others to hook the customer. This explains the offer for sending 15,000 SMSs for Rs.99 (around $2) a month — a cool 3 SMSs for 2 paise. Or for just Rs.299 (around $6.5) to call 65 hours, or full-hour of talking with your mother for under Rs.5 (11 cents). If your circle of friends extends nationally, at Rs.599 ($13.3) per month plan you can talk for 65 hours, packing in 60 minutes of calling for a little over Rs.9 ($2). For the service provider there is little money to be made in the local or long-distance calls from and individual subscriber. However, money is made from value added services — ranging from ring tones and astrology, music downloads and jokes, stock alerts to cricket scores, International calls and data services. It is estimated that there are at least 100 different services that add up to plum value added services. There is hardly a subscriber who has not subscribed to a service or two at a minimum of Rs.15 (33 cents) per month. If you include data services like browsing the web to send email, downloading music or streaming video to watch TV, the billing potential for the mobile companies is huge and is likely to grow manifold in the third generation (3G) regime. By subscribing to data packages on a mobile phone the subscriber can navigate unknown routes or even make international calls for a song. While all 600 million Indian mobile subscribers don't own a handset that supports data services, it is only a matter of time when some of the cheaper “copycat” look-alike handsets — as market researcher, IDC calls them — will be within every mobile user’s reach for as little as one-tenth the average price of a smart phone. Industry analysts expect that a number of service providers could be offering mobile voice over internet protocol (VoIP) services to offer cheap international calls. Right now making international calls is not only expensive it also needs activation, often for a fee and a fat security deposit. Once the mobile VoIP services are available, the call rates could drop from the current Rs.6.40 (14 cents) per minute at the lower band to as low as Re.1-Rs.2 (2-4 cents) per minute. Already a few options like the iTel Mobile Dialer Express available in the market allow a phone subscriber to make VoIP call from the mobile phone. With the mass deployment of Wi-Fi networks in many countries and the introduction of cheap GPRS service, calling from mobile set using VoIP technology is getting popular. The telecom tariffs in India, among the lowest in the world, have silently been making a visible difference at the sociological level — you see it in a bus, train or plane. At another level there are mobile air space consumers who are busy converting phone calls from a primarily day time activity to a 24/7 activity. With a variety of cheap night-time calling packages on offer, it is not uncommon for friends to call each other late into night and for much longer durations. With value offerings targeted in the non-peak hours, the service providers have been able to make inroads into the sleeping hours of young student community successfully. The time is not far when the mobile revolution will embrace the remaining half of the country — at a steady rate of adding 20 million new mobile connections every month — in less than three years. The economies of scale will hopefully extract the India demographic advantage for many more seconds at the cost of a single paisa. China launches electric taxis for city commuters Posted: 17 May 2010 11:20 PM PDT Beijing, May 18 (IANS) China has launched a fleet of electric taxis in booming Shenzhen and is aiming to add more battery-operated vehicles in order to check the impact of global warming. With the launch of 40 electric taxis Monday, Shenzhen city of southern Guangdong province has become the country’s first city to have environment-friendly transport in operation, said Hu Jianping, president of Shenzhen Bus Group (SBG). “The E6 cars’ ET (environment technology) batteries give off zero emissions and cause no harm to the environment,” said Wang Chuanfu, chief executive of BYD, manufacturer of the electric taxis. The five-seater E6, with a maximum speed of 140 km/h, consumes 21.5 KWH of power per 100 km and can run about 300 km on one charge, a record for a vehicle of its kind, Wang was quoted as saying by Xinhua. The taxis, priced at around $40,000 each, can play a vital role in “building low-carbon urban transport system”, said Vice Mayor Zhang Siping, adding that Shenzhen plans to have more such taxis on its roads.
Eight years after lottery, he’s back to bin man status Posted: 17 May 2010 11:18 PM PDT London, May 18 (IANS) A Briton, who won 9.7 million pounds in a lottery and blew it all up on drugs, women and wild parties, wants to again start working as a bin man. Mikey Carroll has again applied for the 200 pounds a week job that he resigned from after winning the lottery eight years ago. “I don’t feel embarrassed or ashamed. I want to start straight away,” The Sun quoted him as saying. The 26-year-old spent all his fortune on drugs, women, wild parties, liquor, gambling and expensive cars. He had even boasted about sleeping with up to four sex workers a day at his eight-bedroom home. He was later imprisoned for five months for possessing cocaine. “I’m not going to have the high life I used to – the drugs, whores, drink and cars, but it don’t matter. Four nudists on London tube leave commuters stunned Posted: 17 May 2010 11:14 PM PDT London, May 18 (IANS) Four men and women travelled naked by the London Underground, attracting gasps from stunned commuters. The nudists carried handbags or briefcases to cover their modesty and they travelled on escalators and rode in the carriages as if their lack of attire was completely normal, Daily Mail reported Tuesday. The naked travel was part of a promotion for a TV series that sees staff at struggling businesses help turn around their company. Steven Suphi, behaviour change specialist, says stripping off in the office will help boost employees’ confidence and develop trust. “For most people in the UK going to work in the nude is a very daunting prospect. I believe this extreme process will help them push their boundaries and become a close team that trust each other enough to get naked together,” Suphi was quoted as saying.
Play a role in inclusive education, Sibal tells private sector Posted: 17 May 2010 11:14 PM PDT New Delhi, May 18 (IANS) The private sector must play a major rule in inclusive education, Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal said while suggesting a slew of innovative measures to encourage the sector to provide education to the less privileged. Government schools premises, he said, could be given to the private sector for conducting evening classes with 50 percent students from less privileged sections. “Municipal and government schools can be given to the business class after school hours. You can run skill development centres or evening schools,” Sibal said Monday while delivering the 38th Shri Ram memorial lecture here. “Take 50 percent students from the less privileged class, government can pay their expense. Rest 50 percent can pay their fee,” Sibal said. Other government buildings and offices which were free in the second half could also be used, he suggested. “Let the buildings be used for a constructive purpose, not for marriage and parties,” he said in a reference to the widespread practice of using government schools and buildings for conducting marriages and other functions. Describing human resource development as the most important factor for sustaining economic growth, Sibal said 70 percent of the working population was under qualified with no primary education. The minister stressed on inclusive education, calling upon the private sector to play a major role in the process. “Government has planned 6,500 model schools, of these 3,000 are to be made on the public private partnership (PPP) model,” he said, asking the private sector to contribute in building infrastructure. “We will provide the land and you (private sector) build the schools. Take half students from economically backward class, we will pay their fees,” Sibal said. “The contribution from the private sector will be the building, and you can incur the cost through the fee you take from the students from sound economic backgrounds.” Sibal also discussed the need for providing residential schools to stop street children and child labour from going back to work. “Once the right to education is implemented, in the next eight years, every class will have at least 25 percent students from economically backward sections. I hope by then we will have a legislation to give reservation beyond that level,” Sibal said.

Blanchett welcomes criticism from husband Posted: 17 May 2010 11:07 PM PDT London, May 18 (IANS) Australian actress Cate Blanchett, who features alongside Russell Crowe in the just released “Robin Hood”, says she welcomes criticism from her straight-talking husband, playwright Andrew Upton. “My husband keeps me really honest. I remember him saying to me after I made ‘Elizabeth’ (her 1999 Academy Award nominated role). ‘Sweetheart, you've probably got about five years.’ He was preparing me for the time when the work dries up, as it invariably does,” dailymail.co.uk quoted Blanchett as saying. The actress, who posed for W magazine’s cover issue, also told the magazine that she is not scared of criticism from her partner and knows how to handle it. “We're really open,” said Blanchett. “I have friends – she's an actor-writer married to a director – and she was horrified when we said we were going to work together. She said they don't talk about work because they don't want to venture into the territory of being criticised by your partner,” she told W magazine. “But I know what to do with criticism,” she added. Reclining on a sofa, wrapped in a silk dress, Blanchett looks picture perfect in the photograph. Blanchett and Upton have three young sons – Dashiell, 8, Roman, 6, and Ignatius, 2. She says they would love to have another child, regardless of gender. “If the next one was a boy, then that's just our lot. It's true you do get a bit demented (with three boys). But the chaos of it is great.”
Nargise Bagheri adopts Godiva approach for PETA, Why? The actress who made her debut with her co-star Akshay Kumar from ‘Garam Masala’ gave her humility with long-hair for the drive with the message “Don’t Get Taken for a Ride, Horse-Drawn Carts Are Cruel.” As per a PETA statement telling Bagheri “Horse carts are cruel and outdated and should be relegated to the history books … in the city, the mix of horses and traffic can make for a lethal combination for horses and passengers." In the launched compositions, the actress rides the dark horse nude, alike Lady Godiva, life-partner of an earl under Danish King Canute, who as per the myth, rode nude by the lanes of Coventry. This time Nargise Bagheri too has adopted Lady Godiva approach for an exciting recent drive organized by PETA. |
