5 Reasons to NOT have Golden Pig Babies Posted: 07 Oct 2010 12:48 PM PDT The Year of the Pig will start later this month in China- Feb. 18th. It is the last year in the Chinese 12 year cycle and is considered a lucky year, a good year to have babies. Not only do the Chinese have a 12 year cycle, but there is also a 5 year cycle – gold, wood, water, fire and earth. This coming year will be the Golden Pig year. Couples married last year and have been diligently practicing, I assume, with the express purpose of having kids this year…making them golden piggies (gives new meaning to the phrase making bacon)….round and plump – fullness and excellence. Companies are gearing up for this golden baby boom as well. But… 1. What about the burden on the hospitals that will come this year? 2. What about 3, 4 and 5 years down the road when all these little market goers try to get into kindergarten and many get turned away? 3. What about when all these little porkers compete to get into the best elementary, middle and secondary schools? 4. What about when all these little piggies start fighting to get into college? 5. And, of course, what about when it comes time for them to take a turn at finding a job to make their own bacon? Will they all think they were born in a lucky year then? |
Time Top 100 – Infosys’ Great Explainer – Nandan Nikekani Posted: 07 Oct 2010 08:46 AM PDT Infosys is to Microsoft as Wipro is to IBM as Tata Consulting is to Sun Microsystems. Nandan must have written that sentence for Time magazine. It is not clear to me. Nandan is Bangalore’s Bill Gates, except you can understand him when he speaks….so they say. My experience with some (emphasis on some) Indians is that you canNOT understand them. But, India understands Nandan as does the Global economy. India used to be synonymous with the Taj Mahal (been there – it’s beautiful), snake charmers (I had a rattler thrust into my hands on a sidewalk outside the presidential palace) and poverty ( I saw whole villages – bathing, washing clothes and playing in a lake in the countryside of Magla Pradesh, outside of Damoh city). Now when we hear India we think – call centers, software engineers, smart, very smart and feng shui. You canNOT sell a house to Indians from the south unless the door is to the east or west or upside down or something. India is making a difference in the world and there is still more to come. Nandan is the man who can explain to us just what to expect according to Time. |

Olympic Champ Gary Hall, Jr to wear Speedo at Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games Posted: 07 Oct 2010 04:44 AM PDT Gary Hall, Sr was a three-time Olympian, 1968, 1972 and 1976. After that he built the Phoenix Swim Club where his son, now 'old' for a swimmer got his start. Gary Hall, Jr has already represented the United States in three Olympics, 1996, 2000 and 2004 and hopes to make it a fourth…the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games. If he does make the team, he will be wearing a Speedo. The swimwear company announced a deal that will let Hall just swim as he prepares to make the team, which will be decided at the Olympic trials. First up, Gary Hall, Jr will compete for the US in the 50 free and the 4×100 free relay at the 2007 Pan American Games, July 13-29 in Rio Dejaneiro, Brazil. Speedo will know soon enough if they have a swimmer to represent them at the Beijing Games. What sport will you be watching at the Beijing Games? I am heading for the Cube.

Bangladesh v New Zealand, 2nd ODI, Live, Streaming, Highlights Posted: 07 Oct 2010 12:37 AM PDT New Zealand take on Bangladesh in the second of the five matches of the ODI series at Mirpur in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Bangladesh shocked the Kiwis in the first game and lead the series. You can watch the second ODI between New Zealand and Bangladesh live on Neo Sports on October 8. You can also watch the highlights of the second ODI between New Zealand and Bangladesh on Neo Sports on October 9. Live Scorecard and Streaming of Bangladesh v New Zealand, 2nd ODI It is difficult to pin-point the exact cause of the defeat, but the New Zealand batting was definitely responsible for the manner in which they collapsed against Bangladesh. Barring Brendon McCullum none of the others really got a move on and McCullum's dismissal was the cause for the collapse. Due credit must be given to the Bangladeshi bowlers for the manner in which they came back, but it was Shakib al Hasan who stole the show for the side. His four wicket haul pushed New Zealand into the corner and in the end, there was not much that the visitors could do. Mashrafe Mortaza is out of the series and Shakib will now lead the side as well. The second Bangladesh v New Zealand ODI begins at 8.30 am IST |
