'Rakta Charitra II' to be released on Nov 19 Posted: 19 Oct 2010 04:00 AM PDT After posting a nasty comment on Twitter on Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Guzaarish", Ram Gopal Varma has apologized to his fellow filmmaker and, as a "peace offering", decided to release his "Rakta Charitra II" on the same day, Nov 19. "If anything so enamoured of hatred can be called a peace offering, then yes I'm releasing 'Rakta Charitra II' on the same day (Nov 19) as Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Guzaarish'," chuckles Ramu. For the first time in his entire career as an outspoken critique of the Bollywood denizens, Ram Gopal Varma has apologized to a filmmaker for offending him. Ramu realised he had gone too far with his Twitter comment and profusely apologised to Bhansali. Ramu's SMS to Bhansali reads: "I'm sorry if I offended you. I just have this habit of constantly saying something funny on Twitter about every happening out there. Most of the comments are on me. I make more comments on my own films than anybody else's. I'll take back my remark publicly asap. Sorry again." Bhansali immediately chose to forgive and forget and move on. One wonders what brought this generous spirit out of Ramu! Says the director: "I guess it's the nervousness of my own release. I've never been more anxious about any of my films than 'Rakta Charitra'." Ramu admits it is a violent film. "It does to the action genre what K3G (Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham) did to the family film. But the violence is dictated by the theme. You can't say it is excessively violent. The Telugu version was censored this week with just two minor cuts for Adults Only." Declares Ramu: "I'm hoping that Sanjay Bhansali, Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya won't kickbrush my film's teeth. On a more serious note, they're two completely different genres. 'Guzaarish' is about love. 'Rakta Charitra' is about hate." That one stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and the other Vivek Oberoi is purely coincidental. |
Katy Perry, Russell Brand to go for Double honeymoon after Marriage Posted: 19 Oct 2010 03:54 AM PDT British comedian Russell Brand, who is set to marry fiancee Katy Perry in India this month, is reportedly planning to take the singer on a double honeymoon. Brand will first travel to the island group of Mauritius, before jetting off with the "Teenage Dreams" hitmaker to the nearby Maldives, reports femalefirst.co.uk. "It will be the perfect honeymoon - Katy will be bowled over," said a source. "He has been consulting his mum about the wedding and honeymoon and he decided that Mauritius would be perfect. "It's out of the way and they can just relax on the beach, enjoy each other's company and get massages with no other distractions. "Russell fell in love with the place when he took his mum there a few years back and he has wanted to go back ever since," the source added. |
Singer-Actress Jennifer Lopez suffers wardrobe malfunction Posted: 19 Oct 2010 03:50 AM PDT Singer-actress Jennifer Lopez was left embarrassed after she suffered a wardrobe malfunction in Puerto Rico during a night out with husband musician Marc Anthony. The 41-year-old's ample bosom was on full display as she exited an elevator at her hotel in Puerto Rico Monday. As soon as she realised it, she hastily attempted to adjust the front of her dress to cover-up. When that seemed to fail, Lopez covered her chest with her white clutch handbag, as she hurried to her waiting limo, reports dailymail.co.uk. Lopez looked stunning as she wore a sheer white dress covered with shimmering red disks, paired with matching, sparkling red stiletto shoes. The couple were headed for San Juan to perform at a concert. |
'Ramyana', 'Aakrosh' and 'Knock Out' collapsed at Box Office Posted: 19 Oct 2010 03:41 AM PDT Sanjay Dutt-Irrfan Khan starrer "Knock Out" and Ajay Devgn-Akshaye Khanna starrer "Aakrosh" that released Friday have failed to sizzle at the box office this Dusshera. Even "Ramayana - The Epic" fizzled out without any fireworks with no divine intervention. "The weekend was very bad with an overall occupancy of less than 40 percent. The movies didn't pick up even over the weekend. 'Knock Out', 'Aakrosh' and 'Ramayana' could barely cross 40 percent, 50 percent and 30 percent, respectively. The public did not accept the movies," Amit Awasthi, manager (programming and operations) of Spice Cinemas at Noida, told IANS. Delhi-based distributor Joginder Mahajan said: "All three movies have been major duds. 'Knockout' that has been made at a production cost of up to Rs.24 crore could make only Rs.50 lakh in Delhi-Uttar Pradesh-Punjab. 'Aakrosh' that has been made at Rs.40 crore could make only Rs.60 lakh in this belt. "'Ramayana' on the other hand won't even recover its publicity costs. These were all dry subjects with no entertainment quotient and people wouldn't want to shell out money for no entertainment," he added. Directed by Mani Shankar and produced by Sohail Maklai, "Knock Out" is an adaptation of Hollywood venture "Phone Booth". It also features Kangana Ranaut, Sushant Singh and Gulshan Grover. "Aakrosh", on the other hand, has been directed by Priyadarshan and also stars Paresh Rawal and Bipasha Basu. "Ramayana" is a 3-D animated film produced by filmmaker Ketan Mehta under his banner Maya Digital Media. It has been directed by Chetan Desai. "The weekend was a complete washout. None of the movies picked up any momentum, had no word of mouth or content value. The stories were dry and found no takers. There was no business. While 'Aakrosh' and 'Knock Out' managed an occupancy below 20 percent, 'Ramayana' couldn't get anything more than maximum 10 percent," a source from PVR cinemas said. Yogesh Raizada, corporate head (cinemas) of Wave Cinemas, however, had a different story to tell. "Friday was both rocking and shocking. We expected a 80-90 percent occupancy as these were big projects but none of the movies could exceed more than 60-70 percent. Contentwise there was a mixed reaction from the audience," said Raizada. "'Ramayana', however, did decent business around 30-35 percent because of Dusshera and kids making a beeline for the same," he added. |

The forty-seven-year old actor is filming the fourth film of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" series at Pinewood Studios, Bucks, which has been hit by cold breeze. He bought 500 jackets. "Johnny paid out of his own pocket for all 500 of us to have a nice warm waterproof," thesun.co.uk quoted a source as saying. "It's a great morale boost and another example of why he is one of the nicest people in Hollywood," the source added. |

Deepika Padukone feels difficulty in shifting roles Posted: 19 Oct 2010 03:00 AM PDT Deepika Padukone will be seen in two back-to-back films - as the free-spirited Aaliya in one and as the intense Kalpana in the other. The actress revealed that shifting roles was quite challenging for her. "I did 'Break Ke Baad' and 'Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey' immediately one after the other. So I think it was very challenging for me in terms of my mind space to shift from the character in a romantic modern-day love story to the one in a period film," Deepika told IANS in an interview here at Turner Road. "Break Ke Baad", also starring Imran Khan, has been directed by Danish Aslam and produced by Kunal Kohli. It is the love story of a young couple who break up and try to come back together and will hit the screens Nov 26. "Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey", helmed by Ashutish Gowarikar, is a period film set in the Chittagong of British India. It revolves around a series of attacks that took place on a single night April 18, 1930, and its aftermath. The film, based on Manini Chatterjee's book, stars Abhishek Bachchan and Deepika in the lead. The film releases Dec 3. While the characters of both the films are quite diverse on the face of it, the 24-year-old actress revealed the core characteristics were pretty similar and hence she relates to both of them. "Even though one film is a period film and the other is a modern day relationship story, both the characters - Aaliya and Kalpana - are very strong, independent women. They are girls who have their own set of ideals, girls who want to be independent; so in that way I have identified with both characters," she said. Deepika, who started her Bollywood stint in 2007 opposite Shah Rukh Khan in "Om Shanti Om", went on to do films like "Bachna Ae Haseeno", "Chandni Chowk To China" and "Love Aaj Kal". This year she has already had three releases, including "Karthik Calling Karthik", "Housefull" and "Lafangey Parindey". Asked about the apparent similarity between her character in "Break Ke Baad" and in "Love Aaj Kal", the actress said: "People feel that the films are similar, but that's probably because both the films are love stories. Just because the genre is the same doesn't mean that films are similar." "In fact Meera's character from 'Love Aaj Kal' and Aliya's character in 'Break Ke Baad' are completely different. Meera was a more mature, understanding girl, who understood relationships, she liked the idea of being in love, whereas Aliya is a complete opposite. "She believes that if you are in a relationship, it doesn't mean you have to get married. She doesn't believe that a couple have to live together and certain things like that. Her way of thinking about a relationship is very different. She is also very immature sometimes when it comes to relationships," she added. Finally when asked about her experience of working with a debut director, the actress said: "Danish is a fantastic director; I think he is extremely talented and I'm not just saying this because I am working with him, but I think part of the reason for me to say yes to this film is because he came across as someone very confident, in spite of being a first time director." |
Katy Perry, Russell Brand not to marry in Rambagh Palace Posted: 19 Oct 2010 02:53 AM PDT Rambagh Palace here is rumoured to be the royal venue for the celebrity wedding of Katy Perry and Russell Brand Oct 23. But hotel sources deny any bookings by the two so far - and even online reservations show empty rooms on that day! "We are not sure from where this news emerged. We have vacant rooms for the day when everyone says this marriage will take place," said a source in the hotel run by the Taj Group. "Moreover, we in Rambagh Palace do not host formal wedding parties, though there are a few exceptions," said the source. Even the online reservation of Rambagh Palace as of now shows vacant rooms from Oct 22 to Oct 26 after which, for a couple of days, the hotel is supposed to be booked for a conference. "Either the dates are different or the venue is different or the couple is planning to get married alone," the source said. The international media has been abuzz with reports that American pop sensation Katy and British comedian Brand will wed in a week-long ceremony from Oct 23 at the same luxurious heritage hotel where they got engaged on New Year's Eve - Rambagh Palace. There has also been much talk of their going in for a Hindu wedding ceremony. Brand is also reported to be planning a double honeymoon for his wife - first travelling to the island group of Mauritius and then jetting off with the "Teenage Dreams" hitmaker to the nearby Maldives. Incidentally, neither destination is far from India. For nearly two centuries, the Rambagh Palace has been home to generations of royals. Built in 1835 on a modest scale for the queen's favourite handmaiden, Kesar Badaran, it was later refurbished as a royal guesthouse and hunting lodge. In 1925, Rambagh was converted into a palace, and became the residence of the Maharaja of Jaipur. The palace remained the home of the Jaipur royal family until 1957, when it was first converted into a luxury hotel by Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II. But it wasn't until 1972 that Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces took over the reins. It is now the 'jewel in the crown' among the authentic palaces of the Taj in India. |

Die Hard star Bruce Willis wants easy work and women Posted: 19 Oct 2010 02:40 AM PDT Hollywood actor Bruce Wills is no longer keen to star in films that require him to travel to remote places. He wants now to do easier projects and be surrounded by "good looking women" on the set. Asked what he will no longer do, he said: "No snow, no boats, no jungles, no desert. Just cake, all the time. And tuxedos. And great-looking women. "When you have to stand around for snow for weeks at a time and you get cold, it's all I could do not to burst into tears. I am close to my emotions when it comes to cold weather," contactmusic.com quoted him as saying. Despite being 55, Bruce has no plans to retire because he still feels like he is in his 20s. "In the life going on in my head, I feel like I'm only about 28 years old. I'm always surprised when I'm reminded I'm actually 55 years old. To think that some day I'll not be able to do the things I can still do now. I don't think about retirement," he said. |
