West Indies managed to have a mind blowing opening against Sri Lanka in the first test match hitting with the opening batsman, Chris Gayle hitting fantastic three centuries. The team made whopping 580 runs at the first test match in the series at Galle International Stadium on Tuesday. The three was a ruling number for Gayle as he scored 333 with nine sixes and 34 boundaries. The other team on the contrary projected a low key performance with its opening batsman, Dilshan leaving the field on a zero. The score is 36/1. Tragedy struck the Laxmi Nagar area of East Delhi when a four storey building collapsed badly that left 61 innocents dead and 78 others grieving with pain. The building sheltered 60 families or say 200 individuals and maximum of the residents were migranrt labourers originally belonging to West Bengal. According to the sources, the building stood there since past 15 years and the fifth floor to it was also being constructed. Sources also said that about 30 people more are believed to be trapped under the building debris. Though there has been no specific reason mentioned for the collapse but the city police articulate that the building might have weakened due to the heavy monsoon. The locals expressed their disheartenment for the delay in service from the police and firefighters. They said, “They took more than 45 minutes to reach the site. And then there was confusion about how they were going to bring in the ambulances." But the servicemen claim that after the collapse the traffic blocked the roads and that is the reason why it took so long for them to reach the place. Gmarket is kicking eBay’s (EBAY)butt in Korea. And it is doing it by offering cheaper listings, fixed prices and flashy come-ons. Three years ago, Korea was the source of 75% of eBay’s Asian revenue. In the same amount of time, Gmarket has caught up with eBay, each selling about $490 million in the first quarter alone of this year. Gmarket’s strategy is to allow buyers to close deals instantly instead of making bids. Sounds good to me. I have NEVER bought or sold anything on eBay because of the bidding and waiting hassle. There is an option to do the same on eBay, but 90% of Gmarket’s sales are done this way. Yahoo is caught in the middle. Yahoo has an alliance with eBay in the states. But, in Asia, all bets are off. Yahoo Japan already beat eBay there. In China, Yahoo owns 40% of Alibaba, eBay’s chief rival there. Yahoo also recently purchased a 10% share of Gmarket. It reminds me of the fuzzy headed guy that owned all the boxers. No matter who fought whom, the promoter was the winner. It seems to me that Yahoo is going to win this one. We had three words for shoveling snow in Japan. The first was yukikaki, the second was yukioroshi and the third was yukihori. You might guess that yuki is the word for snow. I know, I know, the eskimos have like a 103 words but they don’t do business in Japan. Yukikaki means to shovel the snow and toss it aside, into a trench or a nearby stream or even out into the street. Where I lived, Niigata, on the west coast of Japan…America is not the only country with a west coast, mind you, we had so much snow we had to do yukioroshi, that is throw the snow off the roof. Sometimes we got so much snow, we had to climb up on the roof and throw the snow off to keep the snow from crushing the house. Yes, some doors are made out of wood and paper. The third word, yukihori, was what they did in the eastern part of our prefecture/state. It snowed so much, the houses were buried and you had to dig a hole in the snow to find your house. Yep! Been there, done that! Are you thinking to do business in Japan? Want to do it on the west coast? Take your snow shoes.
