Movie Review: Khelein Hum Jee Jaan se Scores! Posted: 03 Dec 2010 03:02 AM PST
Movie Review: As a film-maker, Ashutosh Gowarikar, in his tryst with bringing to life our bygone era, has tasted success with LAGAAN and JODHA AKBAR. He is seen to have carried on the commendable work in his latest film "Khelein hum jee jaan se " as well. This movie is an adaptation of the book "Do and Die : The Chittagong Uprising 1930-34" by Manini Chatterjee. Usually in book to movie adaptations, the film-maker needs to be very cautious about fact finding and supply of authentic information. This film seems to have justice to the accuracy of events that occurred and is expected to have a strong hold among masses, who are open to such genre of cinema. The true story line is to the effect of a revolution, spearheaded by 26 young boys, two revolutionaries, two fearless women and one inspiring leader, that takes place in the quite town of Chittagong that changes it's fate forever. Abhishek delivers a dynamic performance portraying a calm, composed yet determined leader and schoolmaster by profession. Deepika looks nothing less than absolutely convincing in a de-glam avatar, playing an early 1930 revolutionary woman. The young debutants in the film also deserve a special mention for their natural performance. This film does not target only the box office, which is apparent by its non compromise on portrayal of facts and actual events, without pointlessly glamorizing it. Rating: 4/5 |
Movie Review Rakht Charitra 2: RGV Treats Brutality Truly with Finesse Posted: 03 Dec 2010 01:30 AM PST
Movie Review: Rakht Charitra has led the Hindi cinema in a never before heard of gruesome domain. The first part seems full of ghastly scenes of carnages and the second half is as violent if not more. There lies an appalling plot of enmity between the members of two families underneath all these incidents of slaughter and assassinations. Ramgopal Varma has treated this subject with finesse which makes the typical drama compelling. RGV is a true pro when it comes to subjects like gang war or aggression and he has proved himself yet again with Rakht Charitra. Rakht Charitra 1 was not one of his masterpieces but we noticed it like his Satya, Sarkar and Company. The gripping emotions are common with both Rakht Charitra 1 and Rakht Charitra 2. In short, Rakht Charitra 2 is much more appealing and engrossing than its first part. Suriya is eager to get even with Pratap (Vivek Oberoi). But there are a lot of questions that come to our mind behind the reason for this extreme step. The second half focuses on the various theories to bring the plan of Pratap's elimination into action. RGV deserves the sole credit for making Rakht Charitra 2 memorable. His treatment of the subject makes all the difference. There are several gripping points in the plot which make the enmity between the two really convincing. The screenplay writing by Prashant Pandey is outstanding except a few scenes that seem too prolonged to grab the attention of the audiences. Cinematographer Amol Rathod has worked well behind the scenes. The background score by Dharam-Sandeep is in complete sync with the subject of Rakht Charitra 2. The action sequences taken care by Javed-Aejaz are realistically hideous. Vivek Oberoi seems very convincing but the south superstar Suriya takes away the cake. He is sure to find himself in the new upcoming stars of the Hindi film industry. Shartughan Sinha is not part of too many scenes but Sudeep shows his real self unlike Rakht Charitra 1. Priyamani playing the part of Suriya's wife is superb. In a nutshell, Rakht Charitra 2 truly portrays the concept of vengeance and so it comes with a lot of bloodshed and brutality which makes it justifiable. The audacity fully showcases the true talent of RGV at the best but for only those who know how to face chilling, raw scenes one after the other. |
