Robert Bunsen Biography and Pics

Robert Wilhelm Eberhard (30 March 1811 – 16 August 1899) was a German chemist. He investigated emission spectra of heated elements, and with Gustav Kirchhoff discovered caesium (in 1860) and rubidium (in 1861). Bunsen developed several gas-analytical methods, was a pioneer in photochemistry, and did early work in the field of organoarsenic chemistry. With his laboratory assistant, Peter Desaga, he developed the Bunsen burner, an improvement on the laboratory burners then in use. The Bunsen–Kirchhoff Award for spectroscopy is named after Bunsen and Kirchhoff. Bunsen was born in Göttingen, Germany, the youngest of four sons of the University of Göttingen's chief librarian and professor of modern philology, Christian Bunsen (1770–1837).[2] After attending school in Holzminden, in 1828 Bunsen matriculated at Göttingen and studied chemistry with Friedrich Stromeyer, obtaining the Ph.D. degree in 1831. In 1832 and 1833 he traveled in Germany, France, and Austria, where he met Friedrich Runge (who discovered aniline and in 1819 isolated caffeine), Justus von Liebig in Gießen, and Eilhard Mitscherlic.

Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow ‘Collide’ Onstage at 2011 CMT Music Awards

2011 CMT Awards host Kid Rock handles the gig in a way where he doesn't take himself too seriously. That's probably why he is so effective at steering this ship and was brought back for a second year. The singer earned his keep, though, pulling double duty by performing 'Collide' with Sheryl Crow, in what was a quiet, tender moment smack dab in the middle of the show.

Up until this point, the CMT Awards had been upbeat and twangy, but Kid Rock and Crow turned the tables a bit and dosed the show with a sensitive duet. The twosome will spend the summer touring together, so maybe this performance will serve as a pre-amble of things to come on the road!

The pair sat perched atop stools on the stage, turned into each other. Kid Rock wore a backwards trucker cap and jeans, while the leggy Crow looked fresh in a crisp white shirt. It's their opposite looks and styles that make their duets so compelling and believable. They enjoy that whole yin and yang thing when they perform. Both have toed the line in multiple genres throughout their careers, with Kid Rock trafficking in rap, rock and country, and Crow pogo-ing between rock, country, pop or some variation of the three … and that's why we can't look away when they 'Collide.'
