Posted: 04 Apr 2010 01:07 PM PDT Easter is a festival celebrated by Catholics from different parts of world. The history known behind this festival is that after the crucifiacation of Jesus he rose from death or resurrected after exactly 3 days and this day is considered as the Good Friday and the immediate Sunday after that is celebrated as the Easter. But today we shall dwell deeper into the various other historical stories connected to this festival. The it is said that the Sumerian goddess Inanna, was hung naked on a stake, but eventually resurrected from the underworld. One of the oldest resurrection myths doing rounds is the story on Egyptian Horus. He was born on 25 December. He and his damaged eye became symbols of life and rebirth. Mithras too was born on Christmas day. His followers celebrate it as the spring equinox. Greek God Dionysus is considered as a divine child who was resurrected by his grandmother. Dionysus is also believed to have brought back his mother, Semele to life. In older times pagans used to have brutal fights with the worshippers of Jesus over the viability of God. Therefore, eventually Christianity saw a lot of converts and subsequently accommodated or merged itself with some of the customs of pagan rituals. Thus, we can now see clearly that all the fun things about Easter are actually derived from this acquired pagan customs, for example, the Easter eggs and the Easter bunnies. Though there was a time when the clergy people were hell-bent to ban the cake from Easter but had to give in , seeing the light of the huge number of pagan women converting into Christianity and ultimately blessed the cake. Though now- a- days, Easter has got tech savvy with special cards, emails and SMSs. Better just bake a gigantic cake on jump onto your sofa set with your family members and have a happy time ON Easter!!! Easter Bunnies Playing Havoc at Long Beach Posted: 04 Apr 2010 12:27 PM PDT
THE Easter bunnies at the long are creating a menace for the students of Long Beach City College. They are increasing in huge numbers and are making quite a fuss for the school officials. At one of the students gathering into the lawn the whole school witnessed somewhere around 300 rabbits on the site. The officials complain that the every parent want to gift a bunny to their kids at the time of Easter as they are incredibly cute and adorable but soon find the difficulties to maintain a pet. So, finally they get rid of them and find the Long Beach, being an isolated place, to leave their once adorable bunnies. It’s just gotten out of hand,” said Tim Wootton, deputy director of Rabbit Population Management Task Force. The only way to get rid of this menace is to make sure that the Bunny Committee makes a roundup of all the abandoned bunnies. But at the same time they are quite skeptical to sterilize these at the time iof Easter as they are the symbol of fertilization and religiously sterilization those at this point of time could be morally incorrect and blasphemous. Bunny advocates too voice the atrocities on them by saying that it is not a perfect sanctuary for these fragile rabbits. Mrs. Olson, one of the adopters of these bunnies once carried around 50 bunnies to her home but had to give them up as her new landlord doesn't allow pets in his apartment. Though time to time volunteers come and sterilize them bur still they pose a serious problem to the school officials. Now the best way found is to catch these bunnies and put them into a cage with a tag on it read "Needs Neutering.” |
